Hey Guys...

Ok,, this may not be new for you guys who have been paying attention to the flashlight forums,,however I just ran across these by accident at REI....

http://www.niteize.com/category.php?category_id=28

This is a Very simple mod kit which comes a biscuit containing 3 White LEDS and circuit, and I replacement reflector bezel.

Simply unscrew the head. Unscrew the reflector bezel cap, remove OEM bezel, drop in new bezel, and replace cap.

Rip the OEM bulb out, flick it into the garbage, and insert LED kit as per standard bulb.

Screw the head back on and Welcome to 2005.

This kit brings the factory, mundane dim POS Mini Mag into the 21 Century for $8.00 USD

I'm happier than a pig in #$%$ with this mod kit,,as I really like the mini mag light. I think it's a very well made light,, just not bright enough for me.

I would have bought a half a dozen of them, but the clerk said they were flying off the shelves, so I grabbed the last two they had...

Get one you won't be sorry....

I gotta get one of those. What's the runtime like Eric? I bought a 1 watt Luxeon conversion for a Mag AA and it works fine, but the gain in runtime over incan isn't that great. It was also near $30.00! Darned if I can remember the name right now.

Sounds like you found a winner. I've got another Mag AA around that I've been wondering what to do with. Sounds like the perfect solution.

This is all in the pursuit of never having a bulb to burn out right? Of course lat week the Surefire L4 that I carry everywhere but the shower blinks out while I'm using it just after showing the "Long Lasting, Highly Reliable LED" to a couple guys. It's on it's way to Surefire now for repair:(

I picked up the LED mod and tailcap switch combo for $9. Sweet deal and much brighter.

I just picked up a Nuwai Qlll led flashlight that has 3 watts output for $29.

Amazing little bugger only a little longer that 3.6" long and uses a CR123A battery (included.)

This thing is BRIGHT with 75 lumens. Got it from amondotech and is built with heavy duty aircraft aluminum.

Hey I have 2 of them Q-III's I love em ..
One has a modded TWOJ luxeon star( Very Bright )
And the other has this POP2 circut in it that allows it to have multiple light settings Ie; pushing tail cap to get.. 7Hz Strobe, burst, SOS, survival low and selectable low and some other things I haven't quite figured out yet.. but the best thing I discovered is that they are able to run on the R123 rechargable batteries @ 4.2 volts and put out some massive light for a tiny package..

anyway getting back on the subject those Minimag mod led's are wicked also with the run time you can get off of them and cleaner light output! ;)

I got my dad a minimag with the Niteize upgrade and was pretty happy with it. It doesn't seem to be as bright as the stock but the beam and colour are MUCH better. Incandescents and their ugly beams make me sad :( ...

I got him a minimag so that he can run it with 2 NiMH batteries. The upgrade was very inexpensive, $12 CDN.

Hey Manifest...

Where did you find these in Canada ???

The clicky tail cap is also new to me...

Man I thought I was up on this sort of stuff..
I've really been paying attention to all the new flashlights and stuff,, or I at least thought I was....

Powels85

Where did you get the tail cap and LED upgrade for $9.00 ??
That's a Great deal...

Anyone know if they are coming out with anything for the bigger and smaller lights as well ??
A LED Mod Kit for D-cell Maglights would be wicked!!!
This would mean I could dig out all of my old Maglights and bring them back into service!

Normark--have you ever tried an Opalec New Beam conversion? It looks just like the Nite Ize one, I'm just wondering how it compares. I like the Opalec but it's really blue and a little dim for my tastes (although my dad really likes it). I prefer the 1 watt sandwich conversion but it's much more expensive.

I like the QIII--one of the best deals out there at that price and they do a good job with color selection of LEDs.

Thanks for the link, Esav--saw some stuff that I didn't know that Nite Ize made. I want to get that frisbee now. And I didn't know that they make a version of the RAM tailswitch for the MiniMag.

$9 for the conversion and switch? what's not to like?
that's less than the cost of one cocktail in some places.
I agree $30 plus for a led conversion is just too much. I'm giving these as glove compartment lights, when you're in the pitch black country this is more than enough to get you gear out and to your front door. I'm getting it with the head band.

Nite-Ize also has an LED upgrade for the Mini-Maglite. At approximately $8 it's a relatively inexpensive upgrade to your existing Mini-Maglite.

I ordered mine from REI as well and have to say I'm very happy with the results. Never understood why Maglite doesn't come out with an LED version of their flashlights or if they have I'd like to see one.

Eric, I picked it up while I was out at a local Campmor, but you can get them online. Only problem is the shipping may get you. Here's the link to it on their site.

LEbaron has them...

I bought the one with the tail cap switch, and I'm bringing it back tomorrow..

the LED works fine, but the tail cap will not screw in.. not sure if it's the mag lite of the new tail cap.. guess I'll find out when I try it with a new one in the store..

The threads looks fine, and it's not cross threading, it just will only go in about 3 turns and not enough to get the contact with the battery (or seal the o-ring)
