I have been happy to get sheaths made by a number of different makers. All of the sheath makers I have worked with are frequent contributors to this forum, and all of them have done very good work for me.
Over the last few months I have been fortunate to work with Nick at Nix Leather. He has made 4 sheaths for me, and I am very, VERY impressed with the quality of his work.
The attention to detail in every aspect of construction is amazing. The quality of the leather, the finish and the stitching is as good as anything I have ever seen. These are sturdy sheaths, and I expect that they will last a very long time and endure whatever abuse I throw at them. However, the most impressive aspect of Nicks work is the fit. Every sheath is individually fitted to the specific knife with which it will be used, and then wet-formed. Short of kydex, I have never seen a sheath with a more perfect fit than the ones Nick made for me.
Every sheath maker has a unique style. While I like the elaborate finishes offered by some makers, I think that the minimalistic aesthetic of Nicks sheaths is a perfect match for Andys handles. I think that Nix Leather is a great example of functional art, and love the simplicity of Nicks designs and stitching.
Fit, overall quality, durability and simple good looks. IMHO, Nix Leathers Sheaths have it all. I am really happy that I found this company and look forward to having Nick make more sheaths for me.
One more thing; I have never met Nick and paid full price for my sheaths. I just really appreciate good work and want to share my experience with my fellow Fiddleback fans.
