so i really want a balisong but idk if nj allows them, our knife laws here are bleak and depressing and o so confusing, they say gravity knife but technically a balisong isnt a gravity knife because u have to manually lock it and if u just let gravity drop it open its only half open.

So do any of you law savvy guys out there know if i could or could not have 1 and carry it around just for the sake of they are so fascinating and just as usable as any other form of a edc knife.

Don't go strictly by me, but i dont believe its illegal to own one, but its illegal to carry.

whats the point of owning it if you cant carry it, im not a knife freak so i dont wanna stick something in a case and tell everyone oh look what i got, i wanna actually stick it in my pocket and when something needs cutting cutting will be done

Buff is correct. Possession of Balisongs is Legal, but public carry is not in the state of NJ.

because there are enough knife collectors out there that will buy them to sit in a box. and from what i understand balisongs arent all that great knives. I would like to own a nice BM or Spyderco Automatic but like you said there is no point in owning one if i cant legally carry it.

There are a lot of things in New Jersey that are legal to own but not to carry, this is not a new concept. I own quite a few firearms but here in the peoples republic of New Jersey if you are not a leo it is nearly impossible to get a carry permit.

Whatever happened to the right to bear arms. We shouldnt be restricted to what we can have aslong as we dont have any records that make us a threat. Cause tbh i could hurt someone worse with a 100% legal number 2 pencil just as good as i can with a switch blade. Same for a screw driver a ball point pen a rolling pin and the list is endless. Doesnt make sence

Preaching to the choir. The people that make our laws are fools who get all their ideas on crime from Hollywood movies. The 2nd amendment historically has been interpreted as applying to guns, so this has left the door open for everything else to be banned or restricted.

yea well in nj unless your life is constantly in danger you can not and will not get a permit to carry, so basiclly cops and armored truck drivers are the only people who can legally carry here, where are our rightS?

Talk about knives.

Talking about Second Amendment rights is a political issue.
On Bladeforums, politics is only allowed in the Political Arena.

Laws are not always functional, like laws about civil rights or weights & measures. Laws are often a legislature's way of mollifying a frightened electorate. Education is the key to correcting this. MANY states are improving their knife laws now, and a few have practically abolished all restrictions.

Don't come here to rant. Join AKTI and Knife Rights, write to them for information and advice, and nag your legislators!

What are some of the things that can earn me a warning, infraction, or ban?

Good question. While we can't possibly list everything that you could possibly do to break the rules, here's a partial list.

Failure to follow Forum Specific Rules
Signature Rule Violation
Inappropriate Language
Insulted other members
Posting in the wrong forum
Bumping threads in violation to the no bump rules
Auction / Deal / Bargain Spotting
Minor spam
Trolling
Racism / Bigotry / etc
Selling without paying membership
Interfering with an Exchange Thread
Sassin' the Mods
Major Spam
Custom infractions

Custom infractions

Let's face it - we can't write out every rule. As such, if someone truly finds a new way to act out, we'll issue a custom infraction or a different point total for an existing one.

This is used at our discretion. If you act in a polite, courteous manner, you don't have to worry about anything. If you act like a petulant, spoiled child, troll, try the mod's patience or otherwise act out, well then it sucks to be you

This infraction may be issued as a warning, with various point totals.

As I wrote, Talking about Second Amendment rights is a political issue.

Ranting about your political rights does not belong in this forum. We have lots of rules. I doubt you've made even a perfunctory attempt to acquaint yourself with them. See my signature block for guidance. Above all, Read the FAQ.
