Hello,

I have searched for a while now and I can't make sense of the NJ knife carrying laws.
The knife I was looking at purchasing has a torsion bar for opening. The laws are very unclear to if that would be considered a switchblade or gravity knife. Now I personally don't consider that to be a switchblade, but I am not sure if the LEOs will.

I have asked several friends that are LEO and most of them have no idea what to tell me.
But what I have deduced is that as long as the clip is visible it isn't considered concealed. But the biggest question is that torsion bar.

Also, any laws on length, or anything else I should know?

I appreciate anyone that can help me figure this out.
Thank you.

Welcome to Bladeforums! :)

Assisted openers are legal. We have no restrictions on knife length except for minors: 5" blade and 10" overall. There are provisions on appropriate use, so don't pull out a bowie in a restaurant in place of their steak knife.

Obviously, each jurisdiction and some institutions have their own rules. These are deliberately kept as vague as possible to use against anyone they want to.
