Been eyeballing this blade for some time :

Plan was to take some Gumtree and drill it for the stick tang ( press and glue fit )
The stick tang is a little long so got the chop with my old bolt cutters .
Took some 2 hours to drill the Gum for a decent fit .
Then mixed some epoxy glue and smacked the grip in place ( that press fit ) .
Rough as , at the moment . Sanding will come in the future , where I try to make the gumtree more knife like .

Testing soon ! ( Just need to make a knife first )

By the stains on the wicker I'll guess you were press fitting with your bare hands... I hope your digits are healthy enough to continue with testing.

Those stains are not blood , but rather floor varnish !
From my last DIY ... Or 2nd last ! ( Floor Varnish )

Factory Edge:

100 slices , I felt a roll coming on & at 150 there was a solid paper fail .
Yeah , id say there was a bur / false edge from the factory .

Edge was stropped back ...
Resulting in a 200 slice roll from the looks of it !
A quick wood strop and the knife was slicing paper again ..
Just stropping gave a 50 slice increase ..

I have stropped the edge again and it slices paper really well .
The goal is to put a micro convex on it !
More rope slicing soon .

Ok , I stropped the edge back and put the knife to the rope resulting in a 150 Roll ! ( fail )
I then went at the blade with some diamond sharpeners and some stones ..
Hmmm , was there a false edge ?
Well , I removed something ! That slight chip on the blade edge that was visible to the naked eye is gone .
So ? I did do some video , but so few watch them !
I will include it as part of the next video .

1st part is the missing video :
2nd part = 300 slice roll after some Diamond and 5000 + 10 000 grit stone ( gently )

Looking at the edge under 30x Magnification , there is micro chipping of the edge .
This could be the bur / false edge breaking away .
The micro chipping is right where the edge bites the wood .
Still rolling , but we are up to 300 slices .
