I'm considering a larger CRK one piece knife. The Nkonka is quite different from the other other knives in the one piece product lineup. It's unique in that it features finials to form the cross guards, and a small tool kit in the hollow handle. What do folks think of the Nkonka, relative to the other CRK one piece products?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Ok. Here comes the Heresy.

It's very large and I am still trying to figure out the circumstances in which I would need both a very large knife and a toolkit. On the one hand it seems like a good woodsy knife yet I find an alarming lack of Phillips head screws in the wilds. I'm going to be selling mine very soon

Well. To be honest, this is the knife I bought for my brother-in-law before his deployment to the big sand box. He's a computer helecopter tech in the USARMY(Uncle Sam Ain't Released Me Yet), and he's found the Nkonka very favorable he tells me. The tool kit he says has been coming in very handy.
So I guess it just depends on what you find you need the most in a fixed bladed knife with a tool kit. In this case I'd say it's the right choice.

It may not be the choice of some of us so called hard woods users. But a handy piece of equipment to have "just in case".
 ;)

Good point -- I hear Kiltedshooter saying that the big knife does not go with a driver set for typical use. I had not thought of that -- I carry around a multi-tool and use the screwdriver tools all the time, seldom while I'm camping . . . Blackend's brother-in-law's army life might be one of the niche situations where the combination works well.

Any thoughts, pros or cons, on the finial cross guards?

Blackend,
You point out a very good environment for the Nkonka. I'm very happy that he's getting such good use from it. I should restate the obvious that it's incredibly made and perfect in every way aside from being a little cross to my general usage.

Fooj,
I find the cross guards to be very comfortable, useful and that they make the balance of the knife more functional from my point of view. A+ on those.
