I just got home from a long day at JRE Industries where I had Spen whip up a sheath for my brand new NMFBM and I am ecstatic with the final results.
He used his Mahogany leather which is (I think) 8-9 oz. which is not too thick and not too thin. It securely holds the knife but isn't so tight that it will hang up when I'm trying to get the knife out or put it back. I think gravity is on my side when trying to keep this knife in the sheath too.
Out of the sheath:
In the sheath:
It's got a belt loop on the back if I want to carry it, or I can lash it to my pack. It's also got a horizontal firesteel loop on the top of the belt loop (a very clever idea if you ask me) that keeps the steel handy but out of the way of snags when in the field.
I can't wait to get this bad boy a little...er...a lot dirty in the next few days.
I just can't say enough good things about the service I get from the boys at JRE either. They had a kid weekend and I had my kids with me so the young ones all played together while I stood right over Spen's shoulder as he made this sheath and he never even glared at me or complained about my hot breath down his neck.
I've asked them to consider doing up a fancy rig for this knife too just to see what Dan and Spen can come up with. I'm thinking some fancy inlay or tooling would be nice but maybe a little too fancy for such a hard-working knife.
