NMFBM Sheath from JRE

I just got home from a long day at JRE Industries where I had Spen whip up a sheath for my brand new NMFBM and I am ecstatic with the final results.

He used his Mahogany leather which is (I think) 8-9 oz. which is not too thick and not too thin. It securely holds the knife but isn't so tight that it will hang up when I'm trying to get the knife out or put it back. I think gravity is on my side when trying to keep this knife in the sheath too. ;)

Out of the sheath:

It's got a belt loop on the back if I want to carry it, or I can lash it to my pack. It's also got a horizontal firesteel loop on the top of the belt loop (a very clever idea if you ask me) that keeps the steel handy but out of the way of snags when in the field.

I can't wait to get this bad boy a little...er...a lot dirty in the next few days.

I just can't say enough good things about the service I get from the boys at JRE either. They had a kid weekend and I had my kids with me so the young ones all played together while I stood right over Spen's shoulder as he made this sheath and he never even glared at me or complained about my hot breath down his neck. :D

I've asked them to consider doing up a fancy rig for this knife too just to see what Dan and Spen can come up with. I'm thinking some fancy inlay or tooling would be nice but maybe a little too fancy for such a hard-working knife.

Looks very good, but then again JRE Industries is always top notch

By the way I stumbled on your blog by searching NMFBM in goolge.... Makes for some good reading

Very nice.

Can you show a pic of the back side? And would you mind sharing what that cost? (PM or email if you prefer). Thanks.

Backside?! What makes you think I'd have taken a picture of the backside?!

Oh, like this?

LOL! :D

I haven't tried squeezing the firesteel in that loop yet but I'm going to do that before I go to bed tonight.

Bkultra,

Thanks for your kind words. Be watching in the next couple of days (Tuesday for SURE) to see some other really amazing stuff I snagged from the boys while I was down there. I really don't know how they ever sleep with so many ideas bouncing around in their heads and I don't know how I never thought of some of these ideas on my own. :)

By the way, this leather is just the most amazing color.

I've gotten some stuff that was the color of walnut before which really sang to me but the Mahogany color is off the charts...

Dang, that was fast. JRE makes some nice sheaths! They came to mind for the NMFBM sheath, but I didn't want to have to send mine out and part with her. Do they have a NMFBM on hand now?

Check the link. They do. :)

Turn-around on this one was blazing fast. I'm only about 45 minutes away so I made a run down there and Spen cranked this sheath out while I waited.

I've been talking with Spen today about the horizontal firesteel loop on this sheath and it turns out it's NOT a firesteel loop. :) (It's intended to be used with cordage if you carry the sheath baldric style just like on their smaller bushcraft sheaths.)

In my defense, it does perfectly fit the Army Model Firesteel and I do plan to try and carry the firesteel this way for a while to see if he's inadvertently included a firesteel loop in the design.

Yeah, sorry for not mentioning that before. I'm a Southpaw so I have to order custom sheaths for nearly every knife I purchase.

:)

:D

Yeah, I just drop it in my left pocket when I'm headed out the door.

NMFBM--pocket knife for REALLY big guys. :p
