Well, I am glad I don't have kids yet because I would probably be draining their college funds for my new Infi addiction. I was planning on eventually collecting all of these models, I was just wondering what all of your opinions are on the strengths and comparisons between these three. I have studied all the stats on them, just wondering what everyone thinks about the pros and cons in regards to the differences in blade length and blade thickness

The NMFBM in CG finish stripped and fully convexed with smooth hand shaped magnum grips is a superb knife .... as a "user" .... and I have had all three .... still have the first two .... the FFBM I did'nt like and sold without using it .... but "different strokes for different folks" .....

does anyone know why some of the FBM's have the contour lines on the side of the blade and some do not? and if it is for functionality or aesthetics?

Those were the combat grades at .25 inches thick.

The NMs and the Fattys don't have them.

As for the purpose? I don't know. The blood grooves probably reduce weight and "drag" when cutting. But that is my speculation.

ok cool, thanks, I guess these were really popular when they came out, It just seems hard to decide which one to go for since they are pretty close in dimensions, i mean is .25 and .32 going to make it that much sturdier? and the NMFBm is what, 1.5" longer?

I have all 3 of them.

I would say get all 3. :D

Personally I like the NMFBM the best out of all of them. :)

These lengthwise "grooves" were called corrugated bevel technology - they were supposed to make the blade stronger while reducing weight. My FBM which is up for sale has them.

The CGFBM, with the grooves, is IMO the best all-round Mistress. The thicker FBM-LE and FFFBM are thicker, and the difference in feel is huge. The longer NMFBM is the ultimate chopper. As Peter said, if you get the CGNMFBM and strip it and convex the edge, it is amazing.

Forget about sturdier. You could not even break the 0.187" BWM.

All three are fantastic knives. Just purchase one of each and determine which one suites your needs the best. You can always sell the ones you do not like here on the forums. I'll betcha though, you will hang on to all of them once you got them in your hands.

I wouldn't lock the CG BWM point into something vise-like and bend it laterally to test that theory. Just sayin' ...

I realize the Basic 9 is not INFI (M-INFI), but it's thicker and shorter (.25"/9.5") and can be snapped that way.

Absolutely, though, the difference in thickness and length makes a huge difference in balance, feel, and rotational momentum (chopping power) among the different FBM models you mention.

I know it is not on your list, but I have had two of the three you noted, and I would go right for the NMFBM-LE. It is undescribably awesome! The extra thickness does make a big difference.

No dis Guy, but the CG NMFBM doesn't need to be stripped to be the King - Everytime I compare the NMFBM makes for an easy choice

Pick up an LE if you have the extra cash and use it hard so mine will appreciate even more :D

Probably true, but lately I just automatically strip my coated knives, give them the ghetto satin on the HF 1x30, and thin the shoulder while convexing the grind. So I don't even remember how the NMFBM cut in factory trim. No more LEs for me, I have to sell, not buy.

I have a BWM, a FFBM and a NMFBM. I like all of them for different reasons. But no matter what comes out, the NMFBM is the end all, be all of knives. Its such a monster!!

The Nmfbm is the king chopper unless you go Moab or Chuckette, good luck with that one though. Eventually you'll probably aquire the various Mistress's and make your own decision on the handling and chopping abilities of them. As to which one is right for you. Its kind of a personal thing.

yeah, i need to win the lottery bad so I can get all of these, ill probably turn into a recluse that sits at the computer on friday night waiting for a NMFBM LE to pop up, and drain a thousand out of my account for it, SO how many hours would you say it takes to strip and convex a CG model roughly?

I would not even consider doing it by hand, cuz I'm lazy like that, but others have spent many hours hand sanding blades.

I use a Harbor Freight 1x30 belt grinder. If your standards are low like mine and you can settle for real ghetto satin for a user, then it's only a few hours. If you are good like Horn Dog and 230grains, and take it to a higher finish, then it will be more time.

cool, if I try to convex a blade i would rather buy a cheap one to practice on i think, I think i would be sitting in the dark with a bottle of whiskey for a couple of days if i botched a job on a NMFBM
