NMFSH satin (LE) vs CG

Can someone explain the differences? Satin (LE model) is smooth and collects less moisture.. CG is coated and not as smooth.. That's about all I understand.

Can anyone explain the performance differences, etc..

But double cut is not the same as satin (LE model) ... primarily interested in differences between satin and cg

In the above thread there is a post that Garth tends to keep the coated blades in the vehicle as a less chance for rust scenario. Also, someone posted that the coated blades will add a bit of friction while chopping.

The consensus is starting to form that satin is easier to clean up and provides less friction when chopping.

The best way to strip them is to wear the coating out chopping :thumbup:
 
The coating is not easily stripped. It is on there pretty good. It normally wears down as the knife is used,the coating right next to the edge is the part that wears off first.
 
I've stripped maybe 6 and I'd say it usually takes me 15-45 minutes depending on how clean it comes off and how picky I'm feeling about it.

Eta: a ffg will strip easier than a saber ground blade. The flats take more work than the grinds

Correct. The CG models do not get as much finish work as the satin, and can therefore be offered at a lower price point. When you strip a CG (pretty easy, in my experience) you have some work to do to get it to a 'ghetto' satin.

Specs-wise, the only differences between the two are:
  • Price
  • Finishing options
  • Handle material options
  • Serial number

Performance differences: Lots of people like the coating because they keep better with less maintenance since the steel isn't exposed, but they add some friction and thickness when slicing and chopping. I have also heard that double cut rusts more easily than satin; double cut is supposed to be rust-resistant as well, but sometimes there are inconsistencies in how the bead-blasting machine feels that particular time :)

Most here agree however that rust isn't a major issue for INFI. Some very light maintenance will do INFI good.
