got my knife on friday, it's huge.
i only once carried a knife this big and it was 1/10th the weight and riding on my backpack.

i want a leather sheath, so i plan to see some local guy who makes nice things of leather, but i need advice - what should the sheath have? how many belt holes? should it be reversable in a way i can put is horizontal/vertical? should i plan a way so i can out it on my backpack? do i need a hip lace for such knife?

pictures will be great, please post them!

With a knife of the weight of the NMFSH you do need multiple options. Extra loops or rings for rigging are a good thing, you dont want to have to carry that thing on your hip if you plan to walk a good distance. :)

Shoulder straps are also good if your not carrying a back pack, either Dundee style or in a bandolier type rigging. or both. If you get the right rig that can do both you get the chance to find what works best for you, and the experienced sheath maker can do what you need.

Once done please do post pics, I love to see others work.

The more carry options you can come up with the better. I am a fan of Dundee rigs for larger knives but it is nice to be able to just strap it on your hip every now and then. Be sure to post pics once you have the new rig in hand.

I am also a fan of horizontal carry, of course being fat helps me cause my back side is wide enough to keep large knives from sticking out.

I like a dangler rig due to the mobility, plus you can carry it somewhat baldric style with a braided paracord belt. I also put loops on the back of mine for attachment to a pack, etc.

Yep, I was going to say to ask Tom :D

Gimme a min and I'll take some pics of the one he made for me.

you gave me some very good idea's - now i just need to see how to put it together

leatherman and tom, thats great looking sheath you two are making, makes me wish i lived in the US ;)

Why don't you get Dwayne or Tom to make one for you? , you might have to wait a few weeks but you would get a top of the line sheath:D

Here is a few pics of the two i have made for my NMFSHLE

i know i would...how ever, not living in the states makes the shipping expensive + i will be to affraid is get's stuck at custom's where they will want me to pay tax or (because it's leather) - might destroy it

the only way for me to get goodies from US is my sisters annual visit and thats not going to happen untill july by then i hope i get another knife for delivery..(i was lucky enough to get the NMFSH with my mom who visited my sis for the new year- knife got there on the day of the flight:thumbup:)

and in any case- if things don't work up as i plan, i will shoot them an email and just wait for a bit
