So Ive fallen in love with BUSSE and even though I'm a grand in so far I am still wanting some more (and unfortunately more exp ones). I've been holding on to my CG NMSFNO for a while and not using it... I got the LE and the CG because I knew if I got just one I wouldn't want to beat on it. Anyways I was sharpening the edge a bit on my CG today as one side was ground more than the other and ended up marring up the white coating on one side with this old broken whetstone...which is what led me to go outside to the wood pile and see what exactly all the busse hype was about. I thought "F***, nothing but oak" but I pulled one out and started batonning away...

The nmsfno took it like a champ but at one point I got to a log that was too dense to get through... I just flipped it around and pounded down on the handle end for a sec and I was able to do it. I was really impressed and having so much fun I didn't care about pounding on it. Anyways I like the edge but I would rather have a pretty convex one and I am nowhere near qualified to do it. If there is anyone who considers themself masterful at stropping a convex, lives in the SE US and willing to do it for me hit me up. I'm a bit OCD so I'm definitely wanting to keep the tip sharp and the corner of the choil sharp too and not rounded off as some ppl tend to do. I'm in no rush to do this but if you love working on busses and can help me out let me know. I may also be interested in a strip and polish or satin finish but who knows we can talk about it. Anyways give me a shout.

I have a CG NMSFNO, and my v grind was pretty easy to convex. A little 800 grit sandpaper to start out with, then move up the scale. Takes 15 minutes maybe since the blade was convex to v grind anyway.

The NMSFNO makes a great beater, I've batoned a lot with mine. I stripped it though maybe a month ago because the finish was worn so much, cuts a lot better now.

First, welcome aboard! Second, you have chosen 2 of my favorite blades in the NMSFNO. Convex does improve it IMO. I beat mine like a rented mule at least once a week and it just seems that it is impossible to make it dull.

NORCALBLACKTAIL here on BF is doing some very very nice work. You might want to do a search and send him a PM or Email. I'll bet he will help you out with the convex edge.

Now get off the net and go beat that knife! :)

Welcome to the madness Bro!!! The NMSFNO is an awesome knife by the way, have two myself...

Why am I the only guy around here with only ONE NMSFNO???

Dammit!!! Now I have to buy another... you guys are a bad influence (in a good way). ;) :D

Welcome!

You might consider sending it to Garth at the Busse Shop, he can put any edge you want on it.

After seeing NORCAL's thread I am definitely leaning toward a total strip and polish too...dang these things get expensive. I think I will thrash away on this till the finish is gone. These things are saweet tho! I want the NMFBM or FFBM but the nfsfno seems pretty darn hefty. Definitely a workout swinging it.

You need to get some muscle if you think the NMSFNO is a workout swinging :D, wait till you start chopping with a FFBM or NMFBM, those take a little to get used to.

Now, chopping with a MOAB or a Gladius (one handed) would be a hell of a workout for the first couple times. The ol' right arm would be massive compared to the left, leave you kind of lop-sided :D:eek:

They do look pretty sweet stripped though, I like the coatings, but I'm glad I ended up stripping mine.

Hey, is that what the NMSFNO looks like underneath or did you have to smooth her out? No INIF dimples? I know this is an old post just wanted to know cause I just got my first NMSFNO it's in the mail. I started with FBM's and I'm working my way down :). Thanks!

The NM in NMSFNO means Nuclear Meltdown, Busse-speak for rounding over all the sharp edges around the knife. Doing so removes the dimple in that area. The flat of the blade on the CGNMSFNO might still have some dimples after stripping, not sure.

That's awesome. I only have 1 NMSFNO and do want a other. It and the chopweiler are 2 just insanely bad a$$ knives!!

But it will take him 2 weeks

Not really. My experience has been around 2 to 3 weeks (not the usual "Busse 2 weeks") for sharpening services.

For the most part, that's what it looked like. Had the decarb on it, some spots were a PITA to get that off but others it was easy. It's sad, I only stipped it 2 years ago and don't remember how much polishing I had to do, my brain is fried :o

I do remember taking high grit sandpaper, rolling it up, and basically "flossing" the talon hole/lanyard holes with it to make it all shiney like.
Can't beleive my scales have been shifted for so long and I've been to lazy to send it in. Had to pound them back a little a couple times.

And nope, no INFI dimples :)

You're going to love and hate the NMSFNO. It's a great all round user and can do most anything, so it kind of saves you money from buying other models. At the same time, you're pissed because you keep thinking well, I really like xxxxx model, but I don't need it because I have the NMSFNO. It's such a useful bastard.

Oh, Monte, nice knives. Good to see you really beat the tar out of them :D ;)

Thanks for the info. Like I said, I'll probably beat her a little and maybe down the road someday strip her down. There is a special place in my heart for satin but I do like worn coatings. It just looks cool :D! I'm a mistress man myself but I'm looking for a more versatile lighter backup user. I bought a RMD but I'm thinking it's going to be a li'l to small for me. I like BIG knives :).

It should be here tomorrow so I'll post some pics if I get it. I can't wait :o... :)!

I don't have a NMSFNO.

I do, however have a SarQ with a polished convex that gets me through when I feel the need to cry about not having a NMSFNO, or SFNO.
