NMSFNO...I just don't see much room for improvement...

For a knife in the ~8" range, I don't see much room for improvement over the NMSFNO for an all-around, general-purpose, hard-use fixed blade. Heavy duty enough to get 'er done, not so heavy as to be an unwieldy, clumbsy beast that pulls your pants down. Nice drop point blade profile with utility-orientated grind pattern, good overall ergos, nice balance. Sharp where it should be, rounded where it needs to be. Slides right into a SpecOps sheath. If you don't like the finish, strip it off or get a satin version.

Good stuff.

Just my $.02 worth, YMMV.

Never had one, but always a fan of it!!!!

Great picture, other than those 3 little initials..............

same here. love this knife. i somehow wish Jerry had stopped making knives after releasing the NMSFNO. I would have had all i needed and my bank account would look better today :)

Never held one, but I was intending to order one. Then they wen't out of production.

I'd still like to pick one up. But all the prices have been too high.

The only thing I'd change is to make the tang flat, so it could be used for hammering... kinda like on the SAR5.

.

Don't have one but an NMSFNO is high on my want list. Hopefully I can scrounge up enough money and pick one up in the Exchange or have one custom made by Garth at the shop. one of these days

Not really a fan. I love the original too much.

I may change my mind if they ever came out with a satin Sabre version though.

I had one and traded it for a full flat ground CG SFNO. I prefer it but they're very similar. The special forces handle shape is sexy.

The NMSFNO is a great knife! Still think the SFNO is the best looking Busse but those extra inches can be valuable. ;-)

There is a special balance and feel to the NMSFNO I agree ... personally I would have liked some gimping similar to the SAR 8 to enable a fire steel to be used and to use it for making cord from plants ... but you can always tweak the knife to give these features.

It is probably personal preference here ... but after handling a Basic 9 and a SAR 8 I rather feel the NMSFNO a little heavy in comparison ? Anyone else feel this ? For these reasons I tend to stick with those two ... but I still do like my NMSFNO ... perhaps I am giving a bit too much preference to "light carry" benefit ... whichever way the NMSFNO can certainly be carried without feeling you are lugging a brick around with you ...

Overall it is certainly one of the highest regarded of knives on the forum

Ever the contrarian, the improved NMSFNO is called the FSH!

NMSFNO and FSH are basically the same knife with different handles. My spoiled paws never got used to the fusion handle. Pinky blister alarm big time. There's no arguing about handle comfort though. Very personal subject.

I agree that it's a bit heavy. I'm not really a fan of "mid-sized" blades. I tend to like the B9, BR, or a Mistress and a smaller knife.

Agreed on the NMSFNO - one of Busse's greatest and it is my "Only One Busse" blade, but....

I am quick coming to love my SARSquatch a bit more - so far it can do everything the NMSFNO can do and is significantly lighter to carry on the hip. The DSF is REALLY nice and light too and a great camp knife, but not the best chopper.

Good thing we can own more than one type :)

Actually, I think there is room for a big improvement, which is currently available for purchase directly from bussecombat and it is called Light Brigade Team Gemini.

I think LBTG will outperform NMSFNO in any task thanks to its better grind, plus LBTG adds extra confidence with the guard. If you claim that NMSFNO is a better chopper than LBTG, I'd say that the difference is very tiny and I think that either one of these two blades is not an effective chopper (or something that I would choose for chopping) only in the case where it would be my only possibility.
