NMSFNO New Concept Vertical Carry Sheath

A few of you requested a more affordable sheath than the pricey Leathdex sheath I posted last time so I thought I would post my latest concept for a vertical carry sheath. This is a prototype so don't pay much attention to the stitching, etc. There will be a couple of minor changes if there is enough interest in my design to warrant more work on it...

Since the NMSFNO is a rather big knife I primarily wanted to design something different that would make it easier and faster to draw and sheath for those who don't care for a mid-thigh carry or maybe just wanted something different. It was designed with a user knife in mind and especially for someone who uses their knife a lot. Here are a few other key features of the design:

> Very short 3" draw to entirely clear the knife from sheath

> Very easy to clean/condition entire interior of sheath

> Sheath rotates freely with the leg - extremely comfortable standing, sitting or squatting

> Integrated thigh strap with adjustable heavy elastic strap for comfort fit and no flopping around

> Thigh strap has a curved quick-release buckle to better conform to the leg

> Belt loop can be removed if desired for lashing to pack, etc.

> Light weight even though I used very thick 12 oz. saddle skirting leather

> Wrap around (full) welt

For those who may be wondering - the knife still fits well enough in the sheath for the sheath to be held horizontally with the knife spine pointing down or even upside down without the knife moving. That's without the keeper strap in place so definitely no need to use the strap while in camp.

Hope you guys like it!

Richard

Very cool concept, I really like that one.

ETA: Any idea what the pricing will run on this one?

Richard, You're an artist.
I told you but I'll say it again.
I bought an Ash-1 because of your Leathdex. Its the best rig I've ever put my hands on.

That's a very cool sheath. I'm not into leg straps, myself, but it's a neat design, especially with the seriously exposed blade portion.

Thanks guys! I do appreciate the positive feedback!

Oge14/Trukreltrog - I don't think it's kosher to list prices here but the pricing for this style sheath for most knives would be in line with the Tracker T2 sheaths on my site. I would be happy to make the sheath for most of the Busse knives but I just started out with Busse and only have the NMSFNO, the SFNOLE and the ASH-1 LE on hand so I would need other knives sent to me to make sheaths for them.

Russamurai - Thanks man! - Glad you like the sheath!

Balislinger - Glad you said that! I was thinking I might offer a version without the leg strap. That would then negate the need for the pivoting belt loop so that would reflect in a lower price.

RoyalM - I think the NMFBM would be a great match for this style sheath and I will be looking for a good deal on one to have on hand.

Silverdragon33 - Thanks for noticing the keeper strap. I used an oil tanned leather thong for 2 reasons. First, it has almost no "memory" compared to veg-tan leather and pretty much falls out of the way when undone. I also made it very easy to replace if it ever gets accidentally cut (though that wouldn't be easy to do) and one could use a piece of leather lace or paracord or even shoe lace if need be.

JParanee - Thanks buddy!

Richard

Really cool concept.

That will make draw much faster and cleaning it in the wild will be that much easier.
If retention is good and unfastening of the blade is easy that would be the perfect design for the future big blades as well. In some cases I think iven faster and smaller blades will benefit from this sort of design.
On the other hand, I know that one blade for sure will be perfect for this sheath, Killa Zilla. I have not seen it yet but in a khukri style with the bent blade that would be the perfection. Good job. :D

Same basic design with just a drop loop from the belt. No strap, or strpa appendages at the bottom. Just a straight forward sheath with open front for the SAR5, NMSFNO, and all the rest:thumbup:

Nice design Richard.
I like it as is except for the elastic leg strap(don't like elastic)
and would prefer a nylon web with fastex closure but I'm sure you
could accommodate that :)
