So if you only could get one or the other (Gasp)..... which would it be? I am leaning towards the Skinny Ash..... I have thing for Skinny ones... oh wait... I mean.... well, you know!

So... for a general, carry in your survival bug out super pack... or on your backpack in the woods, which would you prefer? I will always have my BAD on my belt..... I just love that... but I want a bigger knife too. I had the BATAC LE, but it wasn't quite the size I wanted.

How do you like the grips on the ASH compared to the shape of the NMSFNO?

Thanks for your comments.

Get one now, then later, get the other one. Don't put these Hog's around here in any sort of ultimatum position, they get agitated...

If I could only get one I would get both anyway.
You can always sell the one you don't like if you must, or you can sell your blood or your kids toys if you must eat.

They are two of my favorite blades. I like the ASH handle a little bit better and it is lighter (which is good if you plan to carry it a lot and not as good as the NMSFNO if you plan to chop a lot).

I have both. The Skinny Ash is more useful I would think for more things. Better size for an all around camp knive and you can make it sharp as anything out there.

+1 on that. the skinny is a very versatile knife for "real world" use, IMHO.
(that said I'm on the edge ordering a NMSFNO...)

I would actually go for the NMSFNO no questions asked. I never liked the way the ASH looks, and its handle will give you the Busse pinky during chopping if your hand is anything like mine. The NMSFNO will chop far better, but, it is not so heavy that one could not carry it or use it for smaller stuff if you're so inclined. For really precise work, fact remains that both the ASH and the NMSFNO are large and cumbersome, and a much smaller knife would be better and would weigh so little it shouldn't be a big deal to carry one.

I really like both, I can carry one or the other, depending on the mood I'm in!

The Skinny Ash is sadly the only Busse that I own or even handled. I find it to be a superb knife though. The best I have used. It is the only one I have ever seen in person and had to cough up almost $300 just to see if I would like it, but it was a good decision. I carry it every day horizontally in the small of my back in a kydex sheath. I have dressed and quartered a deer with it, done all kinds of kitchen work, and made kindling with (not batoned yet though). I love it and want to get both a larger and smaller Busse. INFI ROCKS!

wow!

surprising.

I think I will take my skinnies down and put em to use.

Gotta check this for myself

don't got a g skinny but i feel that my NM SFNO will manage everything you throw at it,
perfect for the kitchen, great for camp stuff i simply love it!

tough decision, i would take a skinny for long carry because of the weight savings. the sfno is an awesome knife too, but you said "bag" so i would take the skinny.

NMSFNO. if you have a smaller knife like the BAD, you should be covered then. the NMSFNO while being heavier than the skinny, really isn't very heavy overall (coming from a skinny, noodle armed guy who weighs in at 130lbs) and it can do heavier work much easier.
as for your question about the handles, i do like the feel of the skinny more, but i just can't chop with it because of the rear talon.

Considering that you have the BAD on your hip go with the NMSFNO for your "big knife" and you have an almost perfect combo.

Good posts guys! I'll have to think a little more and then jump on one (or both)!!

Yeah, I didn't notice that you had said you would always have a BAD with you in addition. In that case, go with the NMSFNO no questions asked x 2. :D The BAD will do all small work, and in any large work, the NMSFNO will beat the Skinny ASH easily.

well my nmsfno is a razor.

its perfect....with snakesskin slabs

I would generally lean towards agreeing with this.

But, I probably have to say: Apples and Oranges.

Personally, I am not a one-knife-does-all mentallity.

While the Skinny Ash is smaller than the NMSFNO and many might try to consider the Skinny Ash a do-it-all blade, IMO, it still needs (or at least highly benefits from) a 3.5" - 4.5" smaller companion knife for many tasks.

Likewise, the NMSFNO needs a similar smaller companion knife. But, the NMSFNO will run circles around the Skinny Ash in heavy duty tasks.

So, in a two knife comparison with the smaller knife being same or equal in both cases, the NMSFNO combo will EASILY give you the most versatility.

On the other hand, the NMSFNO is still a heavy knife for carry IMO. And the Skinny ASH is easier for carry.

Carry weight and size vs. big knife utility becomes a compromise.

I like my Skinny Ash a lot. But, I do slightly prefer my Sarsquatch for a more comparably sized blade.
