I don't have any SFNO. Does this zone is really usefull/paractical ? Is it not too much pronounced ?

Actually right behind it on the ramp leading up to it, is the natural rest. That's where my thumb feels the best. You can choke up on it and rest your thumb where you've marked and it feels fine too.

The "thumb trough" is the only thing I don't like about SFNO's. When I choke up I find myself putting my thumb forward of the trough. I can't seem to find a fit for it in a reverse grip either. Just not for me I guess. I am sure some like it.

Yes. The size and weight of this knife would be perfect for me, but I really don't like this curious "thumb trough". I prefer to wait and to buy a custom FSH.

Hey thats my pic.!:p Does that mean my HHFSH is more valuable now? Off to the exchange I go...... yeah right. The thumb rest feels natural to me, I hardly ever choke up far enough to use any of the thumbrests though, more only improvement would be a distinct sabre grind.

Despite the ramp, you should order one while you can. This is an awesome knife

..

Just weld it up and grind back to your liking!

:D

i can't for my life understand why you should choke up on a blade that is longer then 4 ".

when i put my thumb on a ramp it is to make some precision cutting, or enhance the force, but who in hell dose that with a chopper with an 8" blade? i don't see any use for a ramp at all on this knife, except maybe because it looks good.

I don't yet have my NMSFNO, but I assume the one thing I won't like will be this thumb "Trough".

The one on my HR fits and feels fine. But, the one on the HR is longer and shallower with a much less pronounced peak at the ramp. Longer and shallower is more versatile. Narrow and deep is less versatile and will fit less people. I don't know that I am optimistic about it feeling right. We'll see.

Some thumb indexing (ramps and troughs) feel pretty good and help give a secure grip. But, I find that unless I shape it myself, about 9 times out of 10 the factory or maker's ramps and troughs don't quite work so well for me.

I have had bad luck with most of the Busse and kin ramps and troughs. Most don't fit and feel as I would prefer. I could write out a long list of Busse and kin blades I have had to let go because I didn't want to hassle with modifying a ramp or trough that didn't feel right in my hand.

The ramp on my SJTAC was one of the worst as my thumb naturally fell on the peak of the ramp. It felt horrible to me and almost ruined a potentially AWESOME knife for me. But, I ground the ramp off and shaped it to fit my hand and now my modified SJTAC is one of my favorite Busse knives. I don't have a readily available pic of my modified SJTAC. Sorry.

The Swamp Rat HRLM had a thumb "Trough" that didn't work well for me. I modified the ramp and now the modified HRLM is one of my favorite Swamp Rat knives.

*** Unfortunately, these modifications somewhat require stripping the blades. Once again, I wish Busse would provide satin finishes at reasonable prices. These modifications, stripping and satin finishing blades is a LOT of work.

Adding steel where there is none is not very easy. The only realistic option is to remove steel if needed
Here is an option for what can "Possibly" be done with the NMSFNO:

Choking up on large blades allows you to do some pretty refined tasks. I can make a good fuzz stick with my Fat FBM choking up. To that effect, a thumb ramp in combination with a choil adds ergonomics in these tasks. It's one of the things that makes a large knife superior to an axe/hatchet in use FOR ME.

it's fine i guess. it's not as comfortable as it would be without the nm treatment since my thumb feels like it could slip off easily
