very simple (or not)
the ASH has been my grail for a long time- it's the one that caught my busse attention
the NMSFNO is one that I grow to like

out of the two which should I get? which do you have?

comparison pictures will be great

can you get any of them from the shop?

thanks

Ok --- so this is actually a tough decision. I myself have tossed back and forth between the two. I can tell you this -- if you're heart truly longs for the Ash -- you'll probably end up buying it or at least drooling over it forever. You can't go wrong with either one. Assuming you're referring to the .32 Ash-1, the weight difference between the two is minimal. I think the NMSFNO is only a few ounces heavier.

The NMSFNO is about .25 inches thick vs .32 for the Ash-1

The NMSFNO is convex (I think) vs full flat for the Ash-1

The NMSFNO is the superior chopper due to it's 8.25 inch blade length, additional weight, grind, and handle shape.

The Ash-1 is more iconic than the NMSFNO, but the NMSFNO has a reputation for being one of the best and most positively reviewed Busse blades.

The NMSFNO is available from the custom shop currently for a very reasonable price. I would say go with NMSFNO. It's what I chose. However, you have to go with the one that makes you smile the most. IMO there is more that the NMSFNO CAN do vs what the ASH-1 CAN do.

Whatever, just buy both and give them both an oil rub down. Due your duty to acquire dual Busse beauties.

For a real world user, the NMSFNO no question, if you need a blade in that size range. The NMSFNO is, IMHO, without peer in the ultra-tough field knife category for the size. In addition to the ergos, convex edge, etc, the real determining factor is the nuclear meltdown treatment. IMHO, the nm treatment should be the standard, not the exception, or at the very least available on every Busse/kin.

Hummmmmmmmmm................... now let me think..... :(

That is actually a tough call. Most know I think the ASH1 is "OK" ;) ;) :D :D and yes indeed come the end of the world i suspect one of my .32s would be there on my hip....in fact *I* know it would. BUT....and I know some have fallen out of their chairs at the thought I would have a but here....but..... the NMSFNO is a spectacularly useful blade, it does indeed have some serious performance advantages over the ASH if you are looking for a one blade do all design. You probably need to try both out in the manner you envisage using it. I have a "couple" of ASH1s and two NMSFNOs.... and I would not feel disadvantaged with EITEHR...!!

Was that a "couple" (of hundred) ASH1's? The NMSFNO is on my "get list", but was very surprised how well my recently acquired SARSquatch handled and performed. Great - another one for you to consider?!

You can get them for $50 each -- better hurry they're available for only 13 more minutes!!!

Decisions, decisions? :D The NMSFNO may be a better all a rounder, but there is something special about an ASH1

Fat & Skinny:)

No problemo..... Getting used to your twisted, cruelllllll sense of humor ;););)

Lol -- thank you for the kind words. I suggest you call Busse tomorrow so that they can give you an accurate price quote. I don't think I'm allowed to state the price on this forum, but I think you'll find it very satisfactory.

Ahhh those knives look amazing!! Quick guys let me know how black canvas micarta/tanker gray blade looks vs black canvas/black blade looks -- I ordered a RMD in the tanker gray finish, but after seeing the Ash-1 in these pictures -- I'm not sure. I still have time to make a change -- let me know fellow hogs!! Lol :)

Both very popular knives,great design.
NMSFNO would be the clear winner if you only had one choice IMO.
Get both & punish them...

Got beaten to it, but here's another comparison pic.

Skinny ASH-1 (.187" thick)
NMSFNO
HOG ASH-1 (.320" thick)
And because it was mentioned as a good alternative to both... SARsquatch
