NMSFNO...will I regret not getting a NMFBM when chopping?

I recently picked up my first Busse, a sterile AMS from the custom shop, and I'm already considering a second blade. Trouble is, I can't quite settle on a 'going walkabout for a week or two, not taking any tools but the AMS and ________' knife.

Looking at the NMFBM, I can see its excellent chopping potential but wonder if I'll regret the greater handle angle for any point use. The NMSFNO is clearly more all-around useful, but I'm afraid I'll miss the extra blade length and heft when chopping.

Can anyone who's used both weigh in? I know "You'll eventually get both :D" will be a popular answer, but I'm really trying to limit the number of non-working blades I own. Thank you all in advance!

I have both and to be honest the NMSFNO is about perfect all around. It's not going to chop as well as a NMFBM. But I think I like the NMSFNO better.

NMSFNO...will I regret not getting a NMFBM when chopping? The simple answer, YES:eek: Get both Bro trust me!!!

NMFSH is in between the two and a great knife.

You just had to go and mention the model that's got an expensive example in my favorite finish and handle color sitting on 'that other auction site' right now...for $900. Sigh :D I am a bit worried that the SH is too thick at ~.32"

Wait a few days and you'll see some pop up in here at a lower price.

I had the .32 and the .22 thick versions of the FSH. I personally didn't care for the .32 version. I felt the thinner version was a lot better all around.

NMFSH does everything I need in a medium fixed blade. Chops as good as a browning comp cutter and splits like a ax. Hell I'd take it over a small hatchet. Anything its to big for a pocket knife can do. Or AMS....

I think the NMSFNO is really all you need --- it chops amazingly well and it's something that can be consistently carried as a jack of all trades workhorse knife. The NMFBM is more of a specialty item that you bring out for very specific tasks/reasons. The NMFSH is more functional, but still somewhat of a specialty knife -- especially being as thick as it is. The NMSFNO has superb specs, feels great in the hand, and looks great. Watch the chopping videos on youtube of the NMSFNO and check out the short point and shoot review I did with mine. You'll see why it's so loved.

NMFBM for sure, I have used both :)

The AMS will take care of everything the NMFBM will not.

The Battle Mistress will out chop most others.

I'm with Dave! Exactly why I chose this combo:

My other combo setup is this NMFBM:

I don't think the NMFBM will disappoint you! :D

Thanks everyone! Reluctance to give up the greater versatility of a shorter, pointier, less angled blade; impatience; and a satin finished NMSFNO with grips I like being available for the right price have combined to give me a NMSFNO/AMS combo. Maybe one day I'll talk to the custom shop about a nuclear meltdown BM with a handle somewhere between straight and fusion, and a different point...but for now it's time to put some miles on the knives I have :D

DSSF replaced my NMSFNO. Lighter with same blade length.

SYCO 1311 replaced my BM. Lighter and more blade length.

If you gotta carry it more than a couple miles weight wins out and a diamond sharpening stone is light.... or some emery paper on a hard sided first aid kit.

If you are camping close to the parking lot don't worry about it and get the NMFBM/ AMS combo. It's sweet!

You don't want to carry an NMFBM for a week or two; the NMSFNO is a better all-rounder.

A CS knife that is not based on an existing blade blank will be very expensive.

I have the all of the discussed knives. I have not used the NMSFNO yet, but I have used the NMFSH and the NMFBM. If you are going to do heavy chopping the Battle mistress has no rivals (bar the MOAB). For light chopping I'd guess the NMSFNO will be fine. Frankly I'd take an FBM to a Steel Heart for a user, the CG versions are lighter and IMO a bit better choppers.
