My friend Reg Ellery helped me name this pattern Bob Cratchet for the downtrodden office worker in the Charles Dickens Christmas tale...

Anyway, this one is for my wife's daughter Sarah who's been whining for years everybody's gotten a knife except her. I think the wait paid off but we'll see. :)

This is my first time using any kind of exotic handle material and believe me I tippy toed all around it to make sure I didn't mess up!

Specs:

OAL 7 3/8"
Blade 3" O1 differentially hardened
Bolsters 416 SS
Pins by Barry Posner
Handle is Mammoth Ivory, fully fileworked around the perimeter
Red and Black fiber liners with red epoxy filling the handle filework

Hope you like it!

Sarah should be tickled pink. That is a beauty! The extra steps and styling sure paid off. You made that old ivory proud.

Dave! I want to hold that knife! Boy howdy, like Bruce said Sarah should be proud of that one. I don't think she'll have any more complaints. If anything everyone else will be saying now. "oh, wow, I want one with mammoth ivory too!" :D

That really is a nice looking knife. I like the shape of the handle combined with the shape of the blade. I especially like the way you did the bolsters and the liner material really sets the mammoth ivory off. Great job! Makes me wish I could get in the shop more.

That's really nice Dave. I have some mammoth too but have not yet used any of it. I hope to after the new year comes in. I am anxious about working it but suppose it just takes one or two to become comfortable with a new, very rare and expensive, material.

Really nice work pal.

Roger

You really Outdid yourself on this little Beauty..
Very Very Nice work.
She will be completely tickeled and proud of this one on Christmas morning.
Bruce

Thanks gents. It's going to a good home, Sarah's husband has a small knife I made a couple years ago and he uses it skinning deer. He's always telling me how his hunting partners invariably try to buy or steal it from him. :D He's probably just pulling my leg to make me feel good, but I know he'll keep Sarah straight with this one! Maybe Sean'll give it a workout and we'll see how well my O1 HT holds up in real life...

Holy molllly Dave :D
I like it. now I have to try harder, pusH puSH pUSH:( :D
you guys are relentless;)
this is what pushes us to our next step in making.
plain, but not at all plain,
tricked out but not too much, the balance
over all in looks, very nice tippy toeing ,
I'll bet your glad it's going to
your Daughter and not to parts un-known :D

Well done Dave. Another ripper. I'm pleased you liked the name.

That mamoth really makes it a special piece Sarah must be thrilled with it.

Blade shape A+
Bolster A+
Mosaic Pin A+
Plunge/grind line A+
Overall look A+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Now how did you get a red ring around that pin?

Steve

Boy, that's a beauty! Do you have any pic's of the file work? Someone else asked this, but, how did you get the red around the center pin? Is it colored epoxy? Keep up the nice work.

Rick

Very very nice Dave, I like this little pattern a lot, The handle turned out great. How did you finish the pins, when I use complex mosaic pins, I have a hard time, not smearing them around a little when I sand, or buff. The center pin on the handle looks great. I am sure she will be more than just happy with that knife.

Very nicely done Dave, its true what they say, good things come to those who wait. She should be real happy.

Bill

Dan, thanks! I'm always following you! :D

Steve & Rick, yep that's red epoxy around the pin. I filled the filework with it and the pin hole is just oversized enough for it to show here. The handle is actually much smaller and it's not as obvious but still there.

Kyle, on the pins I sanded to 600 grit with a block then lightly polished. Because the surface was really flat the buffing didn't leave too many threads & goop behind. :)

This isn't my best knife (I like a handrubbed finish over mirror) it's pretty nice - one I wouldn't mind having myself!

Reg is next, he gave me the name.
