Our yard and sidewalks are usually covered with acorns this time of year. This year I've not seen even one. There was no strange weather this year. No excessive heat or rain. No drought. Anyone know what might be happening? What other wildlife besides the squirrels are going to be suffering because of this? (In SW Pennsylvania)

Here is a somewhat interesting read, if you are into acorn data. :) Maybe it will keep you busy until you get a better answer. >> Link.

I didn't see many acorns in my yard this year. However, I had an unusually heavy drop of hickory nuts this year. Strange...

Have quite a few acorns from my red oaks, none from the white oaks. Had an unbelievable amount of hickory nuts last year. Less than 10% this year.

I deliver mail in St. Louis and it's like walking on marbles. They are really heavy this year.

Depends on where you are. Right around here they're thick, a few minutes down the road they're scarce.
