Poor baby ! Awwwwww

Those $300 AK's are long gone. Chief,would you believe $ 495 & + . Not for me.Gun & gas prices have a common denominator ?

Not a semi- nut but the Luger style has always had an appeal so I stumbled upon a dozen or so Walther P-1's & sprung $279 in 9 MM.
Legend has it that German army & some police units carried them. Mine shows a wee bit of holster chafe on the safety bar because it protrudes . The finish is smoky black, quite like auto primer. It weighs about the same as my Steyr .40 & fits my large hand like it was tailor made. Dumba$$ me,now I'll have to stock 9 types of ammo.Nice thing though, many weapons use mil-surp ammo .
Was unable to find a photo of this model but a corresponding article said Germany had donated 10,000 to the Afgan army. Really dumped a bunch there.
Safe shooting !

Uncle Alan ;)

nothing wrong with the P1 i learned to shoot pistols with my dads P38 he brought back from WW2, only con to them is its a big gun.

all AK's have been going up lately, really though they are still a deal at $500 considering thats still a lot cheaper than an AR15, last gun show i didnt see many of either one,

you can build one for under two hundred :) the kits are out there for about 110.00 and premade recievers around 60.00 It is not as hard as ya think.

P1 was the German Armed Forces´ standard issue pistol from the beginning until the introduction of the H&K USP five, six years ago. And its forerunner, the P38, is nearly identical. I shot the P1 myself in my time in the Air Force.
So it makes sense Germany donated some of them to Afghanistan, there must have been a lot of this guns in the armories.

What does an AR-15 go for these days? I've been thinking of picking one of those up myself...

You are looking at $1,100 - $1,500 as far as I know Triton...

Thanks James, can you tell I haven't done any serious looking yet? I just got to shoot one of those about a week ago and really liked it.

They are fun to shoot.

Personally I like the all-around versatility of the 30cal rounds. The 7.62x39mm Russian round performs about like the 30-30 which is good enough for most game. The AK & SKS are relatively cheap to shoot in comparission and much more fun to clean up afterwards too

If you like shooting from a benchrest or serious accuracy competitions you are better off with the flat shooting 5.56mm though. Its all good

Olympic Arms has an A1 sighted model for $600 (full retail price) according to their display at the Shot Show.

I've seen a good number of standard A2 models at around $800.

I'll take a 6.5 Grendel anyday. The Military Marksmanship units are using them for the high accuracy and long range work. Check out the 6.5 Grendel Forum or Alexander Arms for more info. :D

Alan,

not sure where you are, but Dunham's Sports (Wisconsin & other midwestern states) has AKs for quite a bit less ($350-400) IIRC.

Also: ever think about adding a Makarov to your collection? :)

I'll keep haunting the shows & fleamarkets. I just hate to pay these inflated prices here.Several local shops buy quantity & dump overstock on occasion. I'll either get lucky or buy something not particularly in demand, such as you suggested .Thank you.

Safe shooting !
