No Assist Barrages

Hey there BM Forum! Do Barrages exist without the Axis-Assist? My initial research says no, but I figured I'd ask just to be safe. If not it's really a shame, the barrage heavily appeals to me. Especially the M390 one - a steel I've had such a favorable reaction to on the PM2.

Nope, that is if you're looking for standard production; there are ones floating around de-assisted though. It does affect Benchmade's warranty but some really like the knife that way and are willing to give that protection up.

I love my mini Barrage without the assist in it. I was actually very close to selling it before I removed the assist-spring in mine and will absolutely never sell it now.

For a non-assist barrage you simply remove this:

This from a 583-1, same frame

It's very easy to de-assist a Barrage. And it can be put-back if you ever want. I just put the spring in the box for safe keeping.

Hmmm - I removed the spring in my mini, but hadn't thought about removing the safety lock as well... That pic has me thinking about doing it now.

What's the back look like now?

What are the steps to removing the spring? I removed the scales and it sure looks like the knife has to be taken apart, which I'm not keen to do, usually leave my knives as factory assembled. It's not a biggie, I like the assisted Axis...just curious to know.

The question was asked what the spine of my Warn looks like w/ all the assist stuff removed:

I dyed the red b'spacer more of a violet.

And Joe, you take the knife apart, the spring comes right out. Your call.

Thanks R. for the confirm, I'm not handy with disassembly, The 583-1 will stay assisted.

Thanks for the pic!

I just realized that was a Warn and not a Barrage. I assume it's pretty close to the same though.

Appreciate that for sure.

Warn/Barrage components interchangeable, same frame and dimensions. Diff is the Warn has G10 scales.

I love my 581 assisted. I cant inagine anyone wanting to deassist this knife.

Can you close it one-handed? That's really my only gripe with assisted knives. I do enjoy some assisted folders, but for most of my EDC needs, I prefer one-handed closing knives (without having to use something else as leverage to push the knife back into the scales - i.e. the side of your leg, a table, etc.)

Grab the axis with your thumb and middle finger, use your pointer to push the blade closed. That's how I close my 585 with one hand.

Agreed; I can close my 585 with the point finger but not the 580. The pants leg routine is standard Op for that one.

I took mine out too and now I feel the same way. I think it should be an option, not mandatory. They make autos and non auto knives of the same model. Why not assisted knives also?

Just get a Rift. Preferred it greatly over the Barrage.

The G10 feels like sex.

Plus I just discovered I can flick it open and closed if I so choose. Killer knife.

Gonna do this over the weekend - make my 581 a big brother to my 940. Once you go manual Axis, you can't go back. I get the same snap by tugging the Axis and gently flipping my wrist - but it works BOTH ways.... Once I got my timing down, I am as fast or faster than the assist and when I'm done, it's gone.
