No Bodycote :( How about this?

I would be in for a couple of knives toward a group order if we could get BC to do one for us.

I would be interested in a Bodycote batch.(Might get more results if you also ask at the "other" place, and combine the two batches together)

Someone Mind posting there?? :)

First, we need to check with Bodycote to see if they'll even handle a large private order.

If they agree, we'll need a go-between to deliver the stuff.

I saw a post over at the "other" place that they have opened up to individual orders again but you should call, and ask them directly for sure.

That bottle is something else.

Bodycote is a company that does coatings on materials. they have several tha tare excelent for knives. One in particular, tunsten DLC, is a coating that is so good it bonds to the steel of a blade and protects it against anything. You can hammer on the blade and the coating wont come off.

Here is an info file from their site:

Here is the website for Bodycote:

Depending on the timeframe and cost involved, I would be up for sending in a knife for BC or DLC coating.

Whatever happened to the person, Birdsong I think it was that did coatings of some kind? I haven't heard about that in a while.

Birdsong does the 'Black-T' coating.

Doesn't hold up well.

I haven't heard if he's doing other coatings or not, but Bodycote seems to be the best process.

I also have a blade I'd like DLC coated, so if this works out, let me know.

I e-mailed Bodycote to see if they are accepting orders now. Can anyone give me a ballpark idea of what they charge per inch or blade?? Thanks

I believe it was $25 for the first knife and then $2 per inch of additional blade or other hardware.

If you do a search, you'll find several other threads where we've asked for a show of hands for a large BladeForums order. Nothing has been done though, since there wasn't too much interest.

I was asking a similar question in the knifemaking section and was told to get ahold of some Gun-Kote from Kalgard. Supposedly, this is what Chris Reeves uses on his one-piece models. You can buy some in an aerosol can from Brownell's.
