No Bogie for me at Solvang

I went to the Solvang show today. All I wanted was a Bogie or Onion. I put my name in the lotto and I did not get called. This is my second time that I have ever touched a Bogie. I am just so awed by his knives. I don't want any other knife except a Bogie. Well, looks like I will have to go to more shows to try for a Bogie. He had about ten knives today. Ken onion auctioned off three.

Patience,friend.
Remember,it's not so much the having as the getting.
Next time.

I was there Saturday. Top of the line makers and knives as usual. Lot's of people in a pretty small room. I wanted to talk to some makers that I admire but they all looked busy. I enjoyed it though. Seeing great knives like that makes me want to go to work.

I got a damascus spirograph bloodwood mnandi. I was tempted to buy a mayo from duane of edc knives but resisted. He had 6 mayos for sale. I got a chance to see Tomes folders and should have gotten one but did not. I played around with Stan Fujisaki folders but did not get one. I basically exercise self restraint and did not buy much. Show was very crowded friday. I waited in line for 1 hr to get in. It was great to see so many knifenuts. Pocket clips were sticking out pockets everywhere. One guy had a sword sticking out of his backpack. No sheeple around and lots of people showing their knives to each other in line. Knives sold out too quickly. Chamblin had a clean table before I even got a chance to see his knives. Good show.

I was at the show for both Friday and Saturday. The Friday opening was a scramble as usual. I think Joe Kious, Warren Osborne, Joel Chamblin, Scott Sawby and Bill Ankrom sold out within a half hour. That was the area I targeted and there were slim pickin's after the first 10 minutes.

This is a makers show where the top guns sell out immediately. Ken Onion, Jess Horn, Phil Boguszewski, Steve Johnson and Ernie Emerson all hold lotteries. This is really the only fair way for these popular makers to insure that everyone gets a chance. It also doubles show attendance as everyone brings their significant other.

I went directly to Joel Chamblin's table and picked up a beautiful Gunstock pattern with Black Lip and Gold pins/shield.(pictures to follow) I struck out at all the other tables, everyone was Sold Out! Good for them.

My ever lucky wife got drawn in the Steve Johnson lottery and we chose a beautiful Stag 6 1/2" fighter. No pictures, the knife went to a good friend at the show.

My buddy Bill Ankrom had an amazing Urban Bowie that was engraved by Gil Rudolph. This knife won Best of Show, an award that is voted on by the other makers. It is very prestigous and went to a really nice guy. I'll have to see if pictures were taken and post them later.

There were so many nice knives at the show it's hard to remember what I saw. I hate to think about what I missed!

Bill Ankrom: Every time I get a chance to photograph his folders for a dealer, I go WOW! They are incredibly well-fitted and represent near-perfection. No surprise he won that award to me.

Congrats on all your acquisitions, Win.

Well I didn't get drawn and neither did my girlfriend so don't feel alone. The Bogi drawing was a zoo and I left before he drew all the names. There was one fancy Bogi on a table at the opposite corner of the room fron Phil's table. It was a damascas/stag "Dead Sexy" I believe. Don't know the price though. I would loved to have the Onion "Taboo" with the blue micarta scales Ken had. It matches my "Dead Sexy".

What's a Bogie?

"What's a Bogie?"?? 4, 936 posts and you've never heard that term? It's short for Boguszewski. He's been making quality knives for over twenty years. He makes a nice knife.

I've heard and read a LOT about Phil Boguszewski's knives but haven't had the opportunity to hold one! That is a stunning damascus and stag folder.

I did'nt make the show but did score very big from the show. Duane over at EDC was there on Friday and got lucky. Scored a Proto Bogi called Extreme Cobra. Extreme is not the word! Duane was nice enough to part with this monster and alow me to take possesion of it. I own many knives from many makers and this one is at the top of the heep so far. This knife is flawless and fine. Here's a few shots from Duane:thumbup:

The Extreme Cobra is one of the nicest folders I've ever seen. It is a very well engineered knife and without a flaw. Congratulations on the acquisition.

Congrats Basko00,

I think that Bogie is awesome too! Let me know if you would ever consider parting with it. I will sell a kidney to make it happen!
