No BS, what has a stronger lock, Axis or Carnivore?

Frank,

It seems that you (like me) are contemplaing buying a Carny. I have an axis (p.p. 730s) and really like it. I'm a lefty, but I've been told that it's not too much of a problem. I think I'm going to have to pick one up so I can find out which I like better.

BTW, IMHO, I don't think that the average user will ever take either axis or rolling locks to failure. I know that if there is positive pressure on the blade, it is not likely to close...leaving negative or side pressure to fear. With the axis, if there is negative pressure, the tang exerts a fricting force on the lockbar, which prevents it from accutaing back. The axis seems pretty safe to me.

I'd like to hear from more Carny owners. Already read through all the posts, and am convinced I should get one. I wonder if anyone can convince me to NOT get one???That would be quite a challenge.

In the cutting direction, I would say both knives are relatively similar in strength. They both have similar stop pins and handle construction. In the un-locking direction, again, I would say they are both strong enough, and then some. There may some difference in the total force required to break them, but in both cases, the force required will be well beyond what would be required to seperate the knife from your grip. The Axis looks like a stronger lock to me, because the lock pin is fully cylindrical, while the Rolling Lock pin is a half circle in cross-section. Reliability might be more important than strength though, and the rotating pin and side button of the Rolling Lock might be less susceptible to accidental release than the sliding pin of the Axis.

I would call it a toss-up.

OH MAN, NOW I'M WORRIED, lol, just kidding, simply put, which lock design will last me longer, and can take wear-without gaining play. Personally, the grip of the carny seems to be awesome, and it will be my primary self defense knife-can i trust my life on it??

YEA GUYS, but what if.... you're out about and decide ya wanna go rock climbing, but for got your gear and all ya have is your trusty Axis or Carnivour? Then which one? Hypothetically speaking of course!

I have a 720, a Carnivore, and a Sifu. The locks on these knives are all stronger than any person using them. By this, I mean that I seriously doubt that any human being could put sufficient force on them with his or her bare hands to cause failure. I cite as support for this an article in the latest issue of Blade magazines spin-off, "Tek Knives", which has a very good article on both locking systems. I would suggest that you make your decision on which knife based upon other criteria.
