I'm looking for a new knife and I'm not excited about another Benchmade, Emerson or even Microtech. I would like to try just one of the Busse Combat knives. Just one, I can hear some of you laughing out load from here.

I am interested in something relatively small, but not quite neck knife range. A Badger Attack or a Mean Street or anything else that is a good walking knife. Maybe not an EDC, but definately not a battle mistress. Thanks for your direction on the right path. Any good place to order knives from that might have some in stock and not just two more weeks. Clay

Active Duty-

You'll squirt.

Strong, sharp as hell and not quite as dinky as you might think.

natural outlaw for a do anything knife,
e-handled badger for a midsized knife that you can belt carry, but not feel weighed down, while still being able to stab engine blocks with it.
active duty for a general purpose small cutting task knife. the active duty is what ended my busse persuit (until the new battle mistress arives :D) as i dont need any other knife. active duty and a battle mistress, a do damn near anything combo.

with its extra full thickness spin area (it stays 1/8" thick for about 1/4" near the spine), and with the little amount of metal it has behind the edge, it is supersharp, but it still feels more then sturdy enough for hardcore tasks.

The Active Duty is a perfect fixed blade alternative to the others you mentioned

So where do I buy one? I have been looking through more pictures and the Active Duty is sweet, just like what I was looking for. If you feel funny about naming a place give what to search under. I haven't found much on the web so far. Clay

Maybe a silly question but does all of Mr. Busse's work go for list or are there some people that sell them at a discount? That might be a rude question, but for most things in life I don't pay retail.

One more question for you Busse fans out there, is it just me or do I see more than my share of Busse blades with part of crinkle finish chipped. Is that normal? I guess it would not effect the function part of the knife, but it does effect the cosmetic portion of the blade. Thanks for taking the newbie questions. Clay

Sometimes you might find someone selling one out of their personal stash for less than list but typically the dealers I've met are selling them for right around what Busse is getting for them.

The crinkle coat usually wears with use but I have not observed much chipping:confused:

Hey Clay-

The crinkle style finish is designed to smooth with use as apposed to a blade that is simply coated, which will just wear off.

This "prolongs" the knife’s barrier against corrosion and other hindrances that a coating aids.

If you want a coated blade more able to withstand abuse opt for a desert model as, for some reason, the coating is a little tougher.

However, if you want an ironclad piece of steel with no coating, rumor has it that Jerry is offering satin finished blades as an option with the new line up.

welcome clay,
unless you're really lucky and find someone having a distress sale you will pay retail for a new busse. the older discontinued busse's you will usually pay retail plus possibly a premium for the age/demand of the knife.

one thing that's nice about busse products is that once they discontinue a model they will not reintroduce it. so the model will gain in value whether a safe queen or a user.

as for the coating some like it and some do not. it serves a purpose in severe conditions and will wear as will any other coating.

my pref is satin or bead blasted as i believe it looks more "custom and finished"

mean streets are just one of my favorites as well as the badgers and active duties.

what ever you decide please steer clear of that darkhog fellow as he is crazy as hell. don't turn your back on him for even one second.
he will think nothing of stealing your beer. woman or even your infi. he is a scoundrel.

good luck and if you need anything remember a skunk is mans best friend:)

Thanks to all for helping me understand a little more than I did when I started the post here. I have to figure out some pricing points of the blades we have discussed and then learn how to order. I read a post earlier that it depends on what the Busse crew is producing a run of at the moment for how long it will take. I'll call next week. Thanks again. Clay

Clay,
Welcome to the Busse Forum, glad you stopped by.:D:D

I would agree the Active Duty is probably the knife for you.

Give the shop a call and they'll be able to answer any questions you might have and hopefully be able to send a knife right out. :D:D

Just to let you know that Active Duty's are not currently in stock either:( I called the shop on Thursday, to order a new one (old one is MIA). The new options are not yet available and Off duty's are no where to be found but the older style AD should be in stock soon. Nice knife.(just don't lose it  )

One other thought is the Desert Anorexic Badger, there is one up for auction over on the Usual Suspects forum, for the good cause Simonich auction.

That is a great knife as well and you could probably get it right away.

:D:D
