I finally got a hold of the gunsmith that teaches the CCW classes that's not too far from me. He told me it would be a couple of months after taking and passing the CCW class before I would get my permit.:grumpy:

So now I'm asking for everyone's advice....

What do you think I should do on our upcoming trip to Arizona?
What would you Do?

Should I carry my gun along legally like I have in the past, do without it, or do like I have in the past and just keep 'em locked in the safe at home?
I'm very careful about where we stop and have taught Barb too be aware as well, usually and almost always we stop at the Flying J Truck Stops where we can fuel up in a well lighted and generally busy place.
The Flying J's also have a nice restaurant that serves really good food.
I have only ran into one panhandler at one and he was gone as soon as I went in and reported him too the cashier who immediately got on the phone and informed security.

In all of our travels Barb and I have only been stopped once and that was on a less traveled road at late at night in Arkansas on an ugly, nasty, rainy night by Boss Hog who thought I might have been drinking because and Only Because I was hugging the shoulder in oncoming traffic on the narrow ass state highway in the rainy dark night.
We have never had any trouble with being stopped by any
LEO on the Interstate Highways which we will be on all the way.
I will be inconspicuously armed with at least a 4" razor sharp fixed blade easily accessed on my side and will have a larger razor sharp fixed blade easy and handily accessed in the car. That is my normal mode of traveling armed.;) :D I am more accustomed too carrying a knife with the possibility of using it than I am a gun and would be less likely to hesitate in using it than I would a gun.
But I would still rather be judged by 12 than carried by six! :p

Edited because of good advice.:D

I found a neat item in the Dillon catalog a while back. A leather folder that looks like a day-planer, but has a clever adjustable holster inside and a locking zipper. What I like about it is that I can "hide it in plain sight" in the car or the camper. It's big enough to hold a 4" revolver or auto, plus an extra mag or folder.

Its something that you have to make your own judgement on. Personally I would carry a cheap gun with the magazine separate. All carefully hidden. Also several hundred $ in travellers checks for bail money in case I got caught. Most states that have CCW licenses have made carrying without the license a felony though you may have a defense in court if you're a traveller.

Wish I could offer more.

load it pack it in a travel bag (zipper or velcro) leave it on the floor on the pasenger side...though the razzzzor,,, if you don't get out of the car is good as well.
Also a screwdriver in reach is a wonderful defense weapon and legal

also if you have no criminal background and your a person of golden age traveling just having it may not get you arrested.

Ysva I lost CCw permit last year because of "illegal" carry. It was a Walther ppk. The stupid "red neck cop" kept it but couldn't "charge" me with anything. He just wanted it. So.........the attorneys said for 1 k no problem I'm legal. The gun isn't worth that much. I was po because of the way they scared my wife. But you know...that's the way it goes.

Put it where "they "can't see it and take it!!! ;)

One have gun, other have mags.

Then untill ill Barb gets hers, once you get the ccw carry a second on you for her. Once it looks like the you know what is starting to go down I appreciate that you are a Cherokee Warrion, but I'd sleep better with her to cover your back.

PS: Would you please go down to Trident Precision and kick them in the ass for not sending me the ink signed FFL? I asked them to send me one on Thursday the 10th? Still hasn't arrived.

Carry the gun you trust most. If you maintain a low profile and do nothing to draw attention to yourself everything will be kewl.

Legal or not I would rather be tried by 12 than carried by 6!!!

Bro, they'll order the gun for you with payment up front for shipping and a $30.00 handling fee. I doubt they would send anyone an ink signed FFL.

Thanks guys. I still don't know what I'll do, carry it legal like I always have as it's safest.
I'll also ask my CCW instructor about what's legal and what's not.

Ink signed FFLs are required before anyone can ship firearms (unless shipping in-state). When your FFL receives a firearm for you, you are paying for him to mail his (signed in ink) FFL to the sending (selling) party, receive the firearm, log it into his book, and then transfer to you.

I know I'm the "old lady" in the Cantina, but I wouldn't carry anything illegal. You don't have a history of finding trouble and it is not likely you will encounter anything now. Ball bat, knife, jack handle, whatever....but legal.

You get busted and the CCW goes out the window, plus the expenses.

wacherass, Friend.

I don't have that problem in the PRK. $200 concealed carry class, carry large sums of money, Certified pistol instructor, it all doesn't count for s&*t here in this state, and they won't give me one despite 25 years of trying in 4 different cities. So what do I do, go defenseless? I carry every day and they can go screw themselves. No one is going to deny me my right to be protected. If I make it down to AZ I'll be carrying out of sight for sure, and they'll have to search the car to find anything, but I'm damned if I'm gonna go naked. Consider yourself lucky you live in a civilized state.

Whatever worked for you the last however many years will work just as well for the next two months.

Yvsa, Arizona is an open carry state, is that what you meant by,

"Should I carry my gun along legally like I have in the past, "?

IF not, and you're willing to do so, you'll be fine as long as everyone can see the weapon. This is a whole 'nother decision tree though, personally, I get nervous when I carry openly, but different areas have different norms.

No, carrying it legally would amount too having it locked in the trunk unloaded with the ammo seperate from the gun. That's the way I have always transported my guns, never had any trouble.:)

I've carried openly when we've been in Arizona, nice feeling and the way it should be all over.:D ;)

So the problem is getting there, not being there? I agree, am armed populace is a polite populace. I get edgy with open carry because it's not the norm (around here), and I think it sets you up for potential gun grabs and legal hassles. NC is an open carry state too, but some areas (mine) are decidedly liberal/anti-gun. I doubt you'd make it 10 minutes downtown with an open weapon before you were approached by law enforcement.

Never had any trouble along that route, though I kept to major interstates. I do look like someone nobody should pick on, but I also might look kinda sketchy to the police.

I'd carry legally, in the trunk, rather not risk the legal hassle. YMMV

I can agree with that but if you would like to try a little bit of a different
route than check this out www.getaccw.com from the state of Utah they
let you take courses online by video. These courses are acceptad as legit
do to reciprocity of ccw laws. They even list states that accept these
courses. Hopefully your computer is fast enough to let the flash vid play
so you can take the courses online.
