No choil on Endura/Delica?

I was wondering if there's a reason the Endura and Delica models haven't been given a finger choil? The Police3 was given a choil, and the Byrd Cara Caras and Crows have a choil, why not the latest Enduras/Delicas?

Is there a chance this will come on later models? I'm a huge fan of being able to choke up close to the blade for fine work, and I think it'd be a great addition to these knives.

These 2 models have been around for Years. I doubt very much after so

many years with the same basic design that has been selling well that

Spyderco has any reason to change the design and add a choil....

they have Lots of other models with a choil that folks who want a choil can

choose from. There must must be a Spydie with a choil that will be as good or

better than the Endura or the Delica that you'll like or learn to like.

Check out the Stretch FRN. It's between the Delica and Endura in size, and has one. It's an incredible EDC blade...

The Endura3 had a ricasso that did pretty much the same function if you wanted to do that. My G10 Endura's ricasso is a little shorter and I wouldn't be putting my finger up there. I do like the way they added the choil to the G10 Police3 model.

The Sage and Caly 3 have a finger choil and are similar in size to the Delica. I own the CF Sage and it is the perfect size for me.

No problems here doing fine work with my ffg delica, I can choke up on it without the choil. Also, when gripping a knife for hard use... choils can make a knife feel extremely awkward depending on the choil. If you white knuckle it and put your index finger on the choil, it can really dig into your finger. If you put that index finger behind the choil, your hand is awkwardly far away from the blade.

This is my personal experience with choiled knives, you may be completely different. I have had a few choiled knives that I did like though. On the other hand, I had the caly 3 and greatly preferred the delica ergos. Again the choil just put my hand too far from the blade when gripped for hard use. Plus the ergos on the delica 4 just lock your hand in beautifully.

Thanks for the replies guys. I was just wondering why similar knives have been given choils and these ones haven't. Makes sense not to mess with success I suppose.

Quattro, the Stretch has been on my short list for some time now, I just haven't pulled the trigger yet. Hopefully within the next month or so.

IIRC, Sal has mentioned a few time that, while a good many of us "afis" like 50/50 choils, the average knife buyer does not share our enthusiasm for them. Delica and Endura, as "entry level" knives cater to that market, rather that to "us". He's also noted that some buyers want and inexpensive knife that offers the most edge for their dollar, no choil and no ricasso. The Persistence and Tenacious cater to them.

Yep... Choils belong on small knives that are intended to do or usually do delicate cutting. I don't want a choil on the Manix, Stretch, Military, etc. if it's going to mess with my saber/hammer grip.

I don't like them. I cut a lot of rope and find that when you have to cut fast or under stress that the choil can and does hinder the cut, especially choils with jimping i.e. the Atlantic Salt. On a small knife like the Dragonfly they are almost a necessity but on a full sized folder I prefer a design with no choil.

Do it and don't look back! They are truly awesome. Best blade/handle ratio there is. BTW, keep in mind that in a wee bit the ZDP version will become british racing green. So depending on what you want...the blue will become more scarce but the green will be new.

I am starting to feel like my Stretch II is what happens when Sal feels like taking a great knife like the Endura and tweaking it while relaxing the emphasis on budget a bit.
