I just got a Buck Strider 889SBMF. Nice heavy duty knife !
But I dont find a date code on it. :grumpy:

In the spot it should be its only marked SB.4. Was curious as to why this was.

Thanks !

Congrats on the knife. Are there any other markings at all aside from the SB.4 and I assume the Strider Buck logo on the opposite side?

Yes it has the Strider buck logo on the opposite side. Another thing I find odd, is that it has a small hole completely thru the blade, about a half inch under the thumstud.

Not sure if this is normal, as this is the first 889 I have handled.

It originaly came in a clamshell pack if that makes a difference?

The hole is the detent that engages a ball in the liner lock to keep the blade closed. Not sure why it wouldn't have a date code anywhere? It would not matter if it was in a clam pack or a box. There isn't by chance an outline of Idaho on the blade (2005 date stamp)?

Look closely under the "SB4". There should be a mark/stamp. I had to use a glass to discern that my blade is a 2007 (Chicken Trax Stamp).

Another fully assembled 889SBMF that I have has the Idaho stamp (2005) but no "SB4".

My 882SBTG has the "SB4" with a upside down "T" (2004).

2x 889LE are Anvil stamped (custom shop).

The 881 and 890 are in the closet and I'm too busy (read as "lazy") to check it right now.

Nope, even broke out the magnifying glass, nothing there....strange

Send that POS defective knife to me. I will take it off your hands ;)

Just for grins (and to chew up Trax's bandwidth ;) )...

You can also see where the detent spring ball rolls along the blade into the hole as Messy described above.
This detent/ball system keepsemfromfloppin (German word for "secure" or "hold"...right Haebbie?) the blade while it is not deployed (in the handle).

:D(...I thought that was the German word for those gizmos made by "Bali song" that some "wimmin' " use)...:cool:

Thank you too much...

My Vette gearbox & new/rebuilt overdrive is strewn about my workbench, waiting for some kerosene; I just replaced the two torsion bars in my Xterra (one snapped); I had to ride a 35 year old Honda CL450 to work for a week (in rain) because I had nothing else to drive; and my Weimaraner died...so you figure this is a good time to inflate my Internet Usage bill, huh??? :grumpy:

You give new meaning to the term "buddy"...

Well...I had a brief moment of kindness...I shrunk it from the macro super-duper-giga-byte Original size down to "Small"...but I didn't want to go crazy and let other peeps know I'd gone soft towards ya by doing a Thumbnail ;)

Here's a video of me and my buddy Trax: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n98v2uWX4zE

Goose;
I watched the video and found it charming, warm, fuzzy, and yet somehow...disturbing. How about a disclaimer- "For mature audiences only"?

No, Gans, there's a difference! The word is: keepsyoufromflopping Meaning: to "avoid" your reaction if the knife "opens" in your trouser pocket.

Good health,
Haebbie

Hühnchen, Kumpel, why don't you take a bicycle? That doesn't have any overdrive and no torsion bars, it improves your fitness and it can't die (it's too bad about the good horse).

Take care,
Haebbie
