NO-e & 1 of 14 desert NO-e differences?

Ok, I have a 1 of 14 clip point desert NO-e. I have not, however, owned or even ever handled a standard NO-e. However, everytime I see a side shot of one, I always think that the blade portion is a little shorter than the blade on mine. I know OAL will be different if for no other reason than the 1 of 14s don't have as much of a pommel, but what about blade length (say, micarta to tip)?

What sayest those who know?

Do I need glasses, need to stop drinking, both, or am I actually right (my wife will never believe this last one :p)?

That is a great question, Can you send me your 1/14 to examine and I will ship it back when I'm done.

The clip point may give the illusion of a longer blade...

Um.. that is one sick blade you have!!!!

I was actually thinking the same thing about the optical illusion thing--the clip point making it look longer. Hmmm...

I have a standard NO-E, a 1/14 Desert Clip Point NO-E, and a ZT NO-E lying here side by side.

The 1 of 14 Desert Clip Point and the standard are exactly the same total knife length. Just eyeballing it, the blade of the 1 of 14 is about 1/4" longer, because it does not have the extra metal at the butt.

Interestingly, the ZT NO-E has a nominally shorter blade than either of the others.

This brings up the point that you can expect some variation in the NO-E lines, even between knives of the same configuration. Of my three 1 of 14's (one now resides elsewhere :(), there was not an identical swedge length or coating/spine configuration between them. I have a desert coated standard, thanks to Progunner, that even has a subtle willowleaf profile.

Loss of the unique knife personalities is the downside of CNC.

hmmm, maybe this will help ease your separation anxiety....

Thanks, Mike for the info. At least I now know that any difference really is just my perception more than anything. And with variations from knife to knife on other custom models that had small runs, it is not surprising to me that these NO-Es would also have subtle differences between them.

Guy, of course you know that posting such pics is going to get some people stirred up into a frenzy, right? :D

Here are a few pics of mine, compliments of some folks here who take better pictures than I can (thank goodness!).

Nothing important to add here...

But OTE, does your 1 of 14 look anything like this dirty thing???

Thanks again, that was one sweet blade:thumbup:

That's what I love so much about my older knives, no 2 were exactly alike.

The only exception is 2 fatty SHBA's than I got about 5 years apart. I think they were both ground from the same web and by the same grinder. I EDC both in rotation, and when the grips are dirty, cannot tell them apart. These are 'to the grave users'.

I could tell my 7 SHSH's apart at a glance.

I had a 1 of 7 Recurve, but lusted after the 1 of 14. LOL Just didn't care for the recurve, but the nicest feeling/handling NO I've ever had.

You're going to have to post a pic to remind me of that one Mike, you noticed something I must have missed. I do miss my 1 of 14s. I should have kept at least one of them.

I should have kept at least one of them.

who are you kidding, PG? you should have kept at least one of a lot of things...

i almost cried when i saw the post you had some time ago with a pic of your collection at it's peak and another pic with the missing pieces crossed out. :(
