How did this knife differ from the NO. Does anyone have a picture of the Ergo variation?

Thanks.

first came the natural outlaw ergo, or noe.

then the special forces natural outlaw, or sfno.

The NOE was the first Natural Outlaw. It has the Ergo handle which is the handle that replaced the Busse straight handle. The latest version of the Natural Outlaw is the Special Forces Natural Outlaw. Special Forces refers to the handle shape. The SFNO is hard to find and has a larger blade than the NOE. The NOE is easier to find and cheaper.

There is a knife called a SOW that is a variant of the SFNO. They cost a little more than an SFNO but they are easier to find, they are a custom shop product, full flat ground with a slight recurve and satin finished but otherwise very similar to the SFNO.

When the Natural Outlaw was first introduced it was just referred to as the NO. Since it was the first generation of Natural Outlaw there was no need to have a handle designation for it (ergo or E handle) It was assumed that it was the E handle because the first generation of Natural Outlaw came out at the time the E handles were being made and it has the Ergo handle.

Just as the first Battle Mistress was just the BM, since there were no others to confuse it with.

However, when the SFNO (Special Forces Natural Outlaw) came along the NO (first generation) started to be called the NO-e or NO-Ergo. Most likely when you hear someone refer to a NO they mean the NO-e. NO, NO-e and NO-Ergo can all refer to the Natural Outlaw E handle, the first generation of Natural Outlaw.

I hope that helps
