No fixed blades in Seattle... Why?

Every year I go to my sister's house for thanksgiving, and every year I take a knife that is illegal there but legal in the rest of the state... The year before I had a 6" fixed blade open carrying, the year after that a 3.5" folder, and this year I decide to take my Izula instead of my Kersahw Needs Work in order to stay under 3", only to realize, "Oh, wait, aren't fixed blades illegal here?" Sure enough they are. Here I thought I wad going myself a favor not carrying the knife with the A/O.

So I take it the people of Seattle decided that the only use for a fixed blade knife is to stab someone? That's great...

Seriously though, what is going on here? I know I wouldn't need to convince you guys, but what is the problem with fixed blades? Even if this city were full of office workers that don't need their knives for anything other than boxes and letters ( which isn't the case considering the seafood market here ), why would fixed blades be looked down upon?

I know they banned switch blades in the state to try to address gangs carrying them, and so switch blades and balisongs have forever had that stigma attached. Is this the same thing that happened with fixed blades?

Anyway, it disappoints me. Now I have to leave Izzy at home. Normally I would go with the whole, "Well, I'm not going to be stopped by the police, so I don't need to worry," mentality... However, after the recent shooting of a man carrying a legal knife I'm not really sure how they're feeling about knife enthusiasts, so if something did happen I don't think pleading ignorance would work. Kind of feel like I'd just be begging to have an example made of me.

You expect knife laws to make sense? I suspect that law's been around for decades. With some digging you might be able to find the minutes of the City Council meeting where it was voted in and see if any light is shed.

The wording includes 'or razor blade not in a package, dispenser or shaving appliance.' I wonder how that applies to razor utility knives, folding or not?

(The folding limit in Sea-town is 3.5 inches, not 3, btw.)

Lots of refugees from California. Brought their liberal thinking with them. Just my opinion. I live in central WA.

Seattle is the northern most city in California. 3 out 4 times when you strike up a conversation with a stranger, it goes something like "well, when I moved up here from California 2 years ago." I'm surprised there is anyone left south of Oregon. The motto used to be "don't Californicate Washington!" Too late, they screw us any time they want now.

I'm happy to say I've never been to Seattle but it is certainly a liberal idiot strong hold and seems to manage to mess up the rest of the state. If a knife is for sale I'd assume it's ok to buy it but I certainly would not carry it in the city. This certainly isn't legal advice you need to look elsewhere for that and the internet is not the place.

There's no rhyme or reason to the laws they have in place here. The knife laws, gun violence tax on guns and ammo, and the fact that the King county sheriff holds CPLs for 30 days drive me crazy. Luckily I work in Kent so I can carry my fixed blade knives there.

Here in CA, most of the people seem to have moved here from out of state. So it's very likely a high percentage of the people who moved up to WA from CA originated from other states, for example from the east coast or the Midwest, prior to CA. I'm one of the very few CA-born Californians I know here.
