Got a new knife and was wondering if ANYBODY can give me ANY info on it at all!? Can't find it anywhere. It says pakistan designed by Jim Frost stainless it's got a green wooden handle in an upswept drop point blade sawback blade that looks slightly aged but not too so

A picture or two might help, but I doubt it. Pakistan is not noted for producing high quality cutlery, so you may already know all you ever will about it.

I used to see a lot of the 'Frostwood'-handled knives from Frost Cutlery at gun/knife shows, back in the '90s. I think many of those were Pakistan-made, mainly fantasy/novelty patterns in the fixed blades, but also more 'traditional-looking' patterns in folding knives, like a stockman or trapper. Occasionally would see grossly oversized display knives, like 8" - 12"-inch-handled 'traditional' folders from the same company. Keep wishing I'd bought one of those huge display folders, just for the novely of it.

The 'Frostwood' handles were laminated & stablilized wood in brightly-stained colors (red, green, yellow, purple, etc), often with the individual plies (layers) of the wood in different colors, making for a multicolored look as the handle was shaped and sanded down to varying depth.

I've no idea what type/quality the steel was, other than simple 'stainless'. But as simple users, I assume these knives could be made useful, unless heat treat was totally incompetent.

I have owned several Pakistan made knives over the years and I have yet to find one that would hold a useful edge through any amount of use. Most of the ones I've had don't seem to be heat treated at all.

I think this is a subject knife.

My sister-in-law gave me one for X-Mas and one for my B-Day one year. I cary one in my tractor tool box but it is a poor performer. It'll take a pretty good edge but won't hold it for long. I use it more as an occasional pry bar. The sheath has Pakistan imprinted on the back of it. When I get a chance, I'll look and see what if anything is stamped on the tang.

Overlooked this picture when I was posting above. Here is the Pakistan Special above with it's sheath.

Your call, Gary, not mine, but "upswept drop point" sealed it for me.

I don't know Jeff. That's the way a rookie knife collector might describe a blade.

Anyway, maybe some others have pictures of these Pakistan Specials they can post. It would be interesting to see.

If I was at home, I'd take a picture of a Western skinner I have laying around and see what you say. "Upswept drop point" would be a pretty accurate description.

So many Pakistani frost cutlery fixed blades have a blade shape that could fit your description and an awful lot of them have been available with colorful laminate wood. ( Or what is called frostwood )

I would say you already know everything you need to know about this knife anyways.
They all end up being generic knives available under multiple brands, all that ever really changes is the name and artwork on the box.
