No knives for Christmas for me. :(

Well, I just couldn't make up my mind on what knife to get. I'm at the point where I don't want to buy a knife, or knives, just for the sake of buying them. I want something that could replace my EDC, so I'm trying to be more selective. I almost ordered the BM Ritter Grip, but I feel it won't carry as comfortably as the BM710. I'm also wondering if we'll see the Ritter style blade show up in a slimmer handle, made with better materials. I was also considering the Spyderco Manix, but it's a beast of a folder and it would be limited to outdoor trips where I'd want a larger knife.

So I decided to order a new straight razor and some other shaving supplies. :) Getting Dovo's best quality leather strop, some after shave lotions, etc.

So has anyone else gone nuts deciding what knife to ask for, or buy yourself, for the holiday? :)

I think you're right, that 'just another knife' is no fun. I'm waiting to be inspired :) except that I'm also waiting for my Mission MBK to arrive this week. It is really not like any other knife I've got. I like the idea of a knife that fits its own unique niche.

Stepping off to the side and getting shaving equipment is a creative way to get out of a rut, except .. I .. don't .. shave :D

Wade, you could always send that Ritter Grip off to Chax knives to be redone. He's put the guts of a grip into a micarta handle and it didn't look too bad. It WAS slimmer than the original, and it certainly was better materials.

Sincerely,
Anthony

but I did get (a little early) a Sharpmaker and some Milli-tec (sp?). I couldn't find a knife that I thought would take the place of my BM 800LH so I didn't bother. Maybe I can find a good fixed blade by Valentines Day ;)

IMO the only reason the griptillian isn't a perfect EDC. Those handles are pretty thick and make putting your hand in your pocket a pain.

I like the sound of that. Do you know what he charges for such an operation? :)

I understand the "just another knife" syndrome. I've got all my bases covered. It's very doubtful that anything is going to bump my V-nox Settler and CRK Mnandi as my two EDCs. I do hope to add a WH T-10 to the line up in the coming year, but it would see very limited use.

Been there and done that "buying a knife just because it is a knife" and there is NO satisfaction in that. I agree with Esav about the shaving equipment as a creative way to get out of a rut. Another way to get out of the rut might be to check into some of the great kit knives now available. Places like www.knifekits.com have some great kits. Don't know if you are in to customs or not but I always try to plan ahead for a custom folder to be ready around Christmas, so I can have something to look forward to under the tree. Got a Rick Hinderer Firetac 165 coming for this year! After being through as many knives as I have over the years I'm really about tired myself and just ready to settle down with a few select pieces and maybe try my hand at some kits!

I'm almost to the point of settling down with a few select peices that I really like. At the start of the year I began getting into custom knives pretty heavily. I bought a lot and sold a lot and I'm glad I did. I'm sure I lost a little money in the process but I gave myself a really nice overview of what is available in the custom knife world and that has really helped me to determine what I want in a folder and what I can expect quality wise. I've finally handled all the knives that I've really wanted to handle and am finding out what peices I really like and want to keep long term. This process came to culminations in the past couple weeks with the arrival of my first two Mayo folders (which I love and deffinetly plan to keep) and my first Hinderer a few months ago. The two Mayos and a Hinderer Firetac I should get today or tomorrow are sort of Christmas gifts to myself, but it's requiring me to sell off a number of other knives to pay for them. That is ok though. I don't need to have tons of knives, just a fair selection of really quality peices that are of a style and size that I really like. I'm finding that Hinderer and Mayo are two of the makers that I find most ideal for me. This is the first time in a long time where there isn't some knife on the horizon that I'm wanting to pick up. It's actually a bit of a strange feeling after being on the "quest" for so long.

I'm in the same boat. I have knives on order, but none will be ready this year. :(

I may just have to wrap up some knives I haven't had out in a while and surprise myself. :D

I'm too damn poor to buy myself a knife for Christmas, so that makes a decision alot easier.:D.

I had the same problem with choosing a knife that I really really wanted. So as a solution, I simply bought myself another gun. Fabarms HK FP6 tactical 12 guage, pistol grip full stock, ghost rings with fiber optic sites. Now that solved my problem of what to get myself. :D

To buy not one but, two knives!! I picked up two M16 big dogs from CRKT and had them engraved with mine and my wife's names and the date we got together. OK say AHHHH!! It is her first and I have the smaller M16-12Z and thought that she would get some use out of it and I get to add to my collection as well. :D Anyone need some lazer engraving done on a knife? www.jtknives.com Stop by and check it out he does great work.

Wade, I just did the math and decided that managing all the knives I have sitting around is giving me a headache.

I also was looking for a new mid-size EDC. So, I am selling off a pile (probably starting next week) of factory knives of all kinds to fund my already-purchased William Henry Quest. I like the button-lock better than the AXIS lock, after about 9 months of alternating a WH Westcliff and a BM 960. I generally take the clips off my mid-size knives anyway, so the fact that the Quest is clipless is unimportant. Also, I am looking forward to giving that ZDP steel a workout.

I was actually considering picking up a William Henry. Or maybe a samller gent style knife from Chris Reeve.

I love my WH P10 Lancet, it's a more distinguished knife and I wear it to all the weddings and formal occasions I attend throughout the year.

Not good for prying car doors open but definately a finely crafted knife. :D

Wade,
Sorry for the delay, I'm not sure what Chax charges for that procedure, but they're always nice to talk to! Just hop on over to www.chaxknives.com and you can see the pictures of the one he did and also send an email!

Sincerely,
Anthony

If you are going to pick up one of the WH liner-lock designs, do it soon, because they have discontinued production of liner-locks. Their customers let them know that the button lock is a superior design. And yes, that is from the horse's mouth.
