Figured I'd better grab one without the LBS while I still could since I dumbly sold my last Ums off

Got it from the place where knives ship free in case anyone else is looking.

I actually like the LBS. it works as a it should and it actually gives you a place to post your finger while opening it. I know that may sound dumb but hey, it works.

Weird, I just got one born a day earlier and it has the LBS. I like the LBS though. :D

Yeah, I was gonna say - the 12/20 Umnu must be just about the last one made without the LBS. It's that parts-bin effect.

Nice!! I was pretty happy I found one NIB as well - took me a while to find one. I also felt pretty happy to find one that was a late 2011 with no LBS that was S30V. Yep, I'll be holding on to this one....

If you are happy, Congrats! The LBS was put on the knife to improve the knife, not the other way around.
But I guess if you are just going to collect them, it's like getting the last of the S30V before they were S35VN.

Umm, you might want to check some other threads discussing this... per Anne Reeve these were added because they had a lot of warranty repairs due to stupid users who would intentionally over-extend the lockbar to make it easier to close, instead of learning how to properly operate the knife. The LBS was not intended as a functional improvement to the original design, but to "dumb-proof" the Zaan. Notice how the LBS is pressed in and can't be removed, even temporarily??

Well, it's Left Hand Star-Tac, but here is another Dec 20, 2011 Um (box says "Umnumzaan, Wilson Combat" so I'd say this IS an Um) w/o LBS, with S30V.

So we are saying that if you are smart then you should buy the old ones and if you are dumb, then buy the new one? I consider it an improvement, cause what if you know what you are doing but let a co-worker or friend borrow it real quick, you want to stand there and explain how to use it to them? I don't. I know lots of people aren't smart but I don't always have the patience either. And if I was Anne, and it was a warranty repair issue, I'd do it too!

Call me weird but I am not loaning knife out to someone I don't trust can use it. Even if you know how you are lucky to use one of my knives

Not a problem with my father who makes knives including blade grinding and making scales out of game he hunts. :D
But for coworkers asking to use my knives for opening box or something, I'll just hand them my SAK. It's like carrying a cheap ballpoint pen so I don't have to lend my fountain pens to someone who can't properly use them.

I let a buddy at work use my large micarta to cut an ice cream cake for a co workers birthday. Its my user so not a big deal for me. When he returned the knife it had ice cream in place of grease lubricating the pivot. I swear it was every where. Quick rinse under hot water and it was good as new though :)
