No love for lefties?

Hey knife people,

something just went through my mind and I wanted to ask for your oppinion/thoughts/info:

I own a large Sebenza 21 LH. And that's freakin it! It's the only lefty knife I have.
All the other knifes I own(ed) – like ZT0301, Strider SNG, several Spydercos – are right hand only.

Now, how can it be that 400$+ knifes are not made for lefties also? I mean, yeah, some mid-tech knifes just are not "worth the effort". But SNGs? XM18s? They are considered SEMI-CUSTOM, right? So how come Chris is still the only guy out there who thinks of us lefties?

I even contacted spyderco about this. But no satisfying answer. They make sprint runs and everything … still no lefty knifes in sight.

This is so frustrating. Putting down 400 quid for a knife is hard. But believe me, it's even harder when you can't even properly disengage it.

So, what do you guys think? Do you feel the same? Do you know of any knife maker that includes lefty versions?

Looking forward to some extensive rambling :-D

Spyderco Lefty Military
HEST folder comes as a Lefty
Edit: Can't believe I forgot this one. The one-handed SAKs are lefty-friendly liner locks.

Those are standard items in the line but I can't think of any others outside of CRK. Fortunately he offers some killer options for Southpaws. :)

Strider has done some LH runs of SnGs in the past. Don't know whether they still do them occasionally or not but there are some out there. If you're actually looking for a knife and not just posing a question, there are quite a few makers on BF that do Ti framelocks and could possibly do a LH version for you. Their prices seem right in line with CRK & Strider prices so it shouldn't cost more than the amount you're already talking about.

how many people are out there that are left handed ver right handed?? maybe it is a cost ver sales thing. I would like to buy some left handed knifes too.

Exactly! I think so too. It is just not profitable to adjust the machines to create a knife for a minority. Thus, as dalefuller said, one has to have a custom knife made. Which is an option, yes. But if you have a "jiper" for ZTs, Spydercos and Striders, you pretty much fudged.

dalefuller: Thanks for the advice man! I will try and find left handed SNG. Would have to be a Gen7, though.

The hunt is on ;)

Lefties are 15 percent of the population.
Cold Steel makes many of their knives in ambidex fashion.
Many Benchmades (axis lock) are not right handed at all. As are Spydercos and others.

If the manufacturers do not take into account how many we are, it is their loss, not mine. There are alternatives.
If I made knives, i would not want to lose 15 percent of the market.

That's right, Gambrinus. Axis-lock is of course an alternative.
Just didn't find one I like yet. Manix is just to bulky for me.

I like the 710. But not as much to purchase it.

15%, huh? Didn't know we were that many. Maybe I'll become a knife maker one day. I would produce only the sickest shite … but lefty-exclusive! eat THAT, rick! hahaha ;-)

Yes, we lefties are pretty much hosed when it comes to production knives. I've complained in the Spyderco forum specifically.

Now, when a group of the population as large as 15% faces unfair discrimination in this country.........

Spyderco Manix is ambi, Benchmade Griptilians and several others are too! I'm a lefty and have no problem finding good production knives which can be used by Lefties.

Spyderco has tons of ambidextrous knives. Not really that necessary to make a left handed version unless the pocket clip isn't reversible. Why Strider don't make left handed folders is beyond me though.

While knives like the Manix, Benchmades with the axis lock and lock backs are ambidextrous, there are very few production knives out there made lefty-specific (Spyderco Military, HEST, CRKT M16/21 and CRKs). I was quite content with right-handed frame and liner locks as long as there was a left-handed carry clip option until I got my first true lefty knife. I have now stopped purchasing production knives altogether and just order customs from makers willing to do them.

While my collection will be quite a bit smaller and I will miss out on some amazing knives, the knives I will get will be exactly what I want.

EDIT: I almost forgot Emerson makes a handful of lefties as well. :)

The LionSteel SR-1 is a great knife that is extremely lefty-friendly. My bigest gripe with supposedly ambidexterious knives is that the cutaway for thumb stud or hole access with the left hand is inadequate. The SR-1 has the same depth cutaway on both sides.

Huh? condor pack golok? Why?

Nine posts down, the "Southpaw Knives" post.

Hrm. Maybe it shifted already. The ninth from above was a condor thread.
Or I am just plain stupid ^^

Can you post a link?

Southpaw Knives is a custom maker and his prices are in line with that. That is far from what I would call a production lefty.
