No love for the Grayman Knives?

Hey Guys!

So after being a member for only a few days, and poking around here some, I've noticed almost zero mention of Grayman. A buddy of mine had one on our last deployment and never let it leave his person, slept, showered and, ate with the thing. It felt heafty compared to my ESEE-4 (think his was the Ground Pounder). The reason I ask is that there is one on the exchange, is it a knife worth getting? The only reason I havn't jumped on this yet is that I've never paid that much for a 1095 blade. Thoughts?

Look forward to your comments,

I've held a couple graymans, very good quality in my opinion. On top of that I've never heard anyone complain about the company. I say if you like the design get one! Best ~Kirby

I see alot on the SATU. An amazing overbuilt folder. Can't speak highly enough about it. Grayman's are awesome

you don't see them as ofter as striders and hinderers, but I tend to see them here and there. the SATU is next on my list of overbuilt folders. I'm hoping to pick one up in the next month of so, once my hinderer is paid off...:D

The folders interest me. The fixed not so much. The grind is to obtuse on the fixed for my use and I don't like chisel ground on anything but chisels. About 3 or 4 years ago I handled one at a knife shop in Austria Oregon or just south of there. I remember being very excited because I'm a sucker for 1095 and tough knives. The fit and finish were good but it's full thickness less than 3/4" from the edge. That leaves a lot of steel for no purpose and a very broad edge angle. Good if you are prying and such, bad for cutting geometry. I passed. Ended up getting a Emerson folder. That was a fail, but that has nothing to do with Grayman knives.
In conclusion from someone who's never owned one if you want a indestructible tank killer of a fixed blade they make a good knife. If cutting is your primary concern then maybe look elsewhere. I would like to try one of their biggies on batoning tho.

I have a dua, it is a great knife! Tough, well made and nice fit and finish. They are not as popular as hinderer or strider, but I think are just as good at a much lower price point. Plus, it is a small family run operation of good people.

It's about every 2 weeks or so someone posts a "Why no love for...?" thread about knives that get lots of love. Check that box.

Search helps: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/search.php?searchid=5543236 Dua gets tons of praise.

edit: Got me! Search links don't stay active forever. It's not difficult to just do your own search for grayman, even just a title's only search yields a load of results.

Apparently thinking that searching for an answer on a forum with tons of them before posting is akin to mass murder. Way to cheapen the word.

Not so much a normal "No love for" I'd say (and not just because its a topic I started). I have seen this knife used in the armpit of the world and it performed well. Simply asking if anyone else had experience with the make.

Your search apparently did not pay off.
Gotta love Search Nazis who post searched links that fail. LOL!

This exact thought ran through my head as well. On the topic though I've had my eye on the DUA but have recently started looking at the SATU as well. I have heard lots of good things about the people who run the company and the product they are putting out so I will probably give them a shot here someday.

I've owned several Grayman's. I wish I wouldn't have sold them. They are solid user knives.

I dont think theyre bad knives per say but when compared to other hard use folders I think they are pretty meh

I personally love Grayman folders.

I've handled both the Dua and Satu and they are both extremely solid knives.

I was originally looking at the Dua but am gonna pick up a Satu first.

They get plenty of love on here, I've seen many posts about them.

And of course you can find a ton of love on YouTube for their knives.

I'm not a big fixed blade guy, but I'm sure their fixed blades are just as good as their folders.

What were you doing in Joisey?

I have had two DUA's. Both were excellent. I'm stupid, so I sold the first black G10, then bought one with orange G10. It's very solid, 4mm thick, 3.150" long blade of CPM154, excellent lockup, centered and no-stick. Standard v-bevel on blade edge; not chisel. What else do you want?
You see it there with both small and large Sebenzas for comparison. Handle size is nicely right in the middle. Fits my hand great, although I cannot carry a small Sebbie. Also shown(at bottom) is the Three Sisters Forge Beast, a very nice folder in M390.

You mean S30V?

Grayman (not his real name) is another military service liar; just as guilty of it as Strider or Dwyer. That being said, the knives are decent, (or so I've heard,) and he's long since taken his fraudulent claims off his website, so go ahead and buy one if you don't care about that sort of thing.
