Hey guys!

It seems that a favorite among many of you is the Kershaw Junkyard dog...but not the regular junkyard dog but composite or titanium Kershaw dog.

How is the normal kershaw dog? Is it good? Seems that the composite version gets all the praise.

I've got the JYK II in Sandvik 14C28N as wll as the D2 and SG2 composites. Both of the composites get carried way more than the Sandvik and of those two the SG2 (in my pocket now) gets carried the most. I like all of them but the composites, particularly the SG2 with it's frame lock are my favorites. They just take a edge (IMO) that far surpasses the Sandvik in all respects.

The regular JYDs are great knives for the money, but, folks around here just like the upper end models....because..... well, if you figure out why we always want the more expensive one, let me know.... my wife has been driving me nuts asking about that for quite a while. ;):D

Seriously, the base model JYDs are great knives and Sandvik 13c and 14c are great steels. They are fine grained and take a nice edge all while being pretty easy to sharpen and/or maintain. The knives look good and are a bargain, to boot.

On a side note, I am very guilty of completely overlooking the littlest member of the JYD family. I bought a JYD 1 when they first came out, but, couldn't warm up to the graphics and thought it was too small to be useful. Well, I think I dropped the ball. I picked up a small Gaylean JYD Pro the other day and noted the great ergonomics, given the size..... after that I had to get my hands on a small Kershaw JYD I (I was thinking that the Kershaw must have been different, and in some way less ergonomic).... turns out I was wrong. The Kershaw JYD I is a very comfortable and competent small knife... one of the best I have handled, actually. :o

I’ve used the standard JYDII as a gift a number of times. it’s a great design but who here wouldn’t gladly take the upgrade in steel.

the jyd I is a fine knife, especially for the money...the 3 inch blade is just a good useful utility length for an edc...i don't get anal about steel composition; if it's a kershaw (or spyderco, benchmade, buck, etc.) it will be a-ok...

unlike many others here, i like the clip; it's part of the overall designer's intent and makes it unique to the knife...i don't mod knifes; if i don't like the overall design i don't buy it, period...

I personally did not like the appearance of the composite D2 blade. I have a love/hate relationship with flippers, and really like the JYDII design. I am looking for the SG2 model, and seriously contemplating a blemish model in the Exchange. However, I would be just as fine with the regular Sandvik model.

The JYD is way too small for me.

I had both the JYD I and JYD II on a passaround a few years ago. The larger knife just appealed to me more.

The standard issue is a great bargain on a large knife. The upgrades are also very good deals, so why not go for the better steel?

I own a JYD II SG2, and it's one of my favorite EDCs for over a year, and counting.
