I'm thinking about getting a Maxpedition Sitka. I would really like to look at the pack, compare it to other gearslinger models and try it on. I've been to the Maxpedition website and searched for retailers in NYC non shown.
Thought I'd put the query up here,

Anybody any ideas?

Most places only stock cheap imported soft gear. Your best bet is finding a forum'ite that owns one for a meet up.

Just my experience, but it's hard to judge a pack by just trying it on - you need to load it up.

I could have saved myself a lot of money by trying to walk with a loaded Sitka, it's aweful. The single strap hangs very funny when loaded. I won't own a slingbag now, it's Messenger bags or dual strap backpacks for me.

Well, you could always order it online and try it. If it doesn't suit you, you could return it back. But what a hassle that would be...

I second the comment on the single strap. Small light Maxpedition bags are fine for this. Something like the Kodiak when full and worn for hours will hurt.

The one place I did know who had them, New York Iron Works(police supply store) has closed.

I took the the chance and ordered mine online anyway.
