No more 38 oz. Guyot?

I looked for straight sided Guyot bottles. Several good sources were out of stock. Amazon.com had only a few. One review said:

Just about the only downside to this bottle is that it's quite expensive which is actually a huge problem. Perhaps this is due to the bottle being discontinued and more difficult to obtain, thus commanding a premium (grab one while you can!)

Has anybody heard about this? It’s bad news if it’s true.

This has been an ongoing issue. Last May, I actually called Guyot Designs and spoke with Josh Guyot about it. The production had ceased at that point for the longest time because of production issues. Basically it was too expensive to make the bottle because the threads are machined. Guyot has them made in China and has constantly had difficulty finding someone to make them to Guyot quality standards for a reasonable price. After they teamed up with Nalgene in a distribution agreement, they were able to better negotiate cost with the manufacturer, but they still had problems. They finally found a partner in China and started manufacturing again last year, which is why they appeared on the market again last summer. It seems like they have run into problems again. Which is why I picked up three of them (a lifetime supply for me, probably) when Nalgene had them in stock again last year.

If they appear on shelves again, I suggest stocking up before Nalgene/Guyot just give up. BTW, the 32 oz version is just as hard and expensive to make. The reason the 38 oz standard is constantly out of stock is because it's vastly more popular. The 32 oz version availability is all old stock, some of it many years old. But the standard flies off the shelves whenever it is available.

Good news indeed.

Long wait times can be born. Losing that pattern—

I couldn't figure out why Guyot would stop production on such a great bottle.

I don't know if it's good news. I've been out of the loop for a year. For all I know, it is discontinued. But from what I gathered from my conversation with Josh Guyot last year, Guyot wants to make them as badly as we want to buy them, but yeah, they have the above issues... apparently ongoing.

I bought one from Amazon for a back up to my older Guyot bottle. I got that one from Cabelas years ago and it has seen many campfires over time.

I think it is the best bushcraft type bottle on the market because of design and durability. However for a edc type bottle I think there are much better options out there such as Hydroflask.

Oops. I read that as, you had just recently made that call.

Since your information is a year old you’re right. We can’t tell what’s going on.

I have the bottles I need.

I’m designing a Bug Out/Get Home Bag for a kid leaving for college. The first paragraph of the instructions reads: Dorm is on fire! Get Out Now! Chemical spill on the highway! Hurricane! Explosion in the pesticide factory! Terrorist attack! Earthquake! Book of Revelation! Get Out Now!

A few pounds of gear in her book bag can make all the difference. The core of the kit is the water bottle with cup, the Emberlit stove, and the Vic Farmer—kept discretely in pocket. From this viewpoint her EDC bottle should be her Guyot bottle. It’s a sad day if it's going off the market.
