I was over at a friends house yesterday and he was handleing my kershaw blur and was amazed of its quality:o . All he has ever had were CCCs so I was going to try to get him a knife for Christmas that would get him to stop buying Chinese junk. A folder for less than $40, low maintanence is key. Doesent have to be a strong lock, or any lock for that mater.

Opinels, the buck 110, crkt m16, also If you are lucky you can find the spyderco salt for 45$ and also the Spyderco Native. What about SAK's would he like those?

AG Russell Featherlite is a darn good knife for under $40.

The small Kershaw assisted openers should be in your price range. The Ka-Bar Dozier lightweight folders definitely are.

Traditional Buck Knives are in your range - the 110 or the smaller lockback, even the smaller fixed blades like the Pathfinder and Woodsman.

Happy shopping,
Bob

Kershaw Leek
Kershaw Chive
Buck 110
Benchmade Monochrome
Spyderco Byrd line
Buck Rush
Buck Mayo Hilo
Spyderco Native

I think that giving him the $39.99 Colorado-made S30V Spyderco Native from Wal-Mart would put a smile on his face.

the native, some M16s, for a little more he can get a d`allara drop point or a minigrip...the kershaw storm is really great for 30....the vapor of course...the Centofante is 45 I think. The new Benchmite is 30.

I just bought a couple of Spyderco Natives in S30V from NGK for $39.97 each. Very nice knives, might do the trick.

Please forgive my ignorance, but what's a CCC? Who's making them and where can those be found?

Where can I get an S30V native besides WallMart?

CCC- Charming Chinese Cheapie, slang term for poorly constructed knives

I suggest you look at the Benchmade PIKA and the Spyderco Byrd models.

I think the "PIKA" is the best deal around. I has a great steel 440-C blade (440-C has the highest chromium content (stainless) of any steel and enough carbons to be tough with good edge retention). Has Benchmades lifetime warranty and sharpening. Has a very good lock back lock. Easy opening with the blade hole. A really great knife for about $25-30.

The Benchmade Griptillian is another very good affordable knife with an axis locking system (very smooth).

New Graham Knives used to have the S30V Native in plain edge for 40 bucks, but they are sold out. Now they just have the combo edge for 60 bucks. They do have the Native III for just a little over 40 bucks, though (about 43). It is in VG-10 steel.

I thought CCC was Cheap Chinese Crap. I guess it depends on how polite you want to be ;)

Damn. DGG, you beat me to it. I want to second the recommendation of the Benchmade Pika. It's a good quality knife that can be had fon <$40 (I got mine for $30-something from NewGraham).

Check out the rest of Benchmade's Red line, in particular the monochrome. Very nice, very inexpensive.

CCC is cheap chinese crap or communist china clones, etc. I second the Doziers and the Byrds too

Others may have the same quality, but that's the obvious choice if he liked the Blur.
best, t.
