I find it hard to believe that Emerson will no longer produce frame-locks. I heard high cost was the reason. Yet, strider keeps making FL's and their folders cost more than an HD-7 and the S30V is a more expensive steel than 154-CM. Hmm. This topic has been discussed before but I did not believe Emerson would pull these two fine frame-locks from production. Oh well.
I got one!! :)

Cost of materials could have different impacts on different makers based on the specifics of their operations. Company A may be able to keep making a framelock as long as Ti/S30V/whatever is at or below a certain price, but Company B may have a price tolerance lower than that and therefore have to make the cut sooner.

it wasnt cost IIRC they just didnt sell very well, i suppose the high cost of the knife coulda had something to do with that lol, they certainly werent what i would call "entry level". but imho if they sold like hotcakes they wouldnt have dico'd 'em regardless of manufacturing cost.

i agree with ya though that it sucks, the CQC12 was, imho, the very best production EKI made, and the HD7 wasnt bad either, it was also right at the top, '12's and HD7's are gonna get scarce and pricey wait and see, i'm gonna go ahead and pull the trigger on a HD7 myself tonite, my birthdays saturday so thats gonna be my b-day present to me, if i act right i might can con my girlfriend into paying for it lol,

Happy B-day SIFU1A

Hey Lycosa, it looks like I'm gonna keep my CQC-12, I didn't have the heart to sell it, and it looks like it was for a good reason now.

I wish the link on the emerson website would still work so I could view the CQC-12 and the little paragraph about it. I wish Ernie would bring them back. STR is getting all of the frame lock business, and look at how many people pay to get them converted. That has to say something about Ti framelocks.

I'm thinking about getting my Commander done, but I'm still on the sebbie/what to do list right now.

Thats a shame. I've said for quite a while that the HD12 is Emerson's best folder offering in the production line up followed by the HD7 which would be the best one of all of them if he had only offered it with the "A" blade model optioin as well as the tanto chisel grind model. I certainly can relate to his discontinuing the folder. Materials have doubled and are still going up from when I began offering stuff like you see me doing. Ti is going to have to be listed on kitco.com here before long if it keeps going up at this rate. Carbon fiber also but just go to the grocer. Hot Dogs I bought last month for $0.68 a pack run $.089 a pack now in less than a month actually. It goes on up to all items after that the more you look. Guess you guys wanting one of these better grab it up before they are gone. You know they'll disappear soon now that word is getting out.

B117---I'm glad you kept the 12! Thanks for the post. :)
STR---Always glad to see you chime in. Thanks. You're an Emerson fan! ;)

I recently traded my #12 and have been regreting it pretty damn bad. It's one my single favorite knives out there, and by far my favorite knife of the sort. Don't know what I was thinking. Hopefully I'll be able to get another before they cost a small fortune. A truly great knife. Too bad they're discontinued. Many will never have the opportunity to enjoy one.

Sig---Many have done what you described... me too! Go on a Mission to get one! :)

Happy B-day SIFU1A, I hope you have a good one bro.

Looks like a good time to pick up a few HD safe queens for future sale ;)

I have to say im dissapointed that they have closed that line off :grumpy:
I was hoping for a few new HDs but alas not.

looks like the pimping of EKIs will be the way foward from here.
