No more Generals? Maybe there are...

Earlier this year there was some discussion and disappointment that the General had been discontinued. However, the latest Cabela's hunting catalog has them for sale and a quick check of their website shows them in stock. In case anyone's interested, do a search for catalog number HD-515086.

Let's start the rumor mill! Maybe Buck is planning on bring back the General with a cocobolo handle and a BG42 blade? :) Man, that would be nice!

Yes that would be great! Buck could reintroduce the Buck General and by the way reintroduce their old Buck Frontiersman. They could have the same specs as before, but with the exception of that this time, they could have diamond wood handles and BG42 steel(like the knives had in the Master series)!

How about a reintroduction of the whole Master series again?

The Buck Frontiersman...Now, THAT was a knife! I'd love to see that one make a comeback...Maybe even with canvas micarta or G-10 for the scales to make it not-so-slippery.

Tell me more about the General. I have always had a Special and would be interested in it's big brother. Would it try to replace my BK7, which replaced a Ka bar? I generally carry a Pathfinder or the Special for hunting knives, and can't see the need to go bigger. From the picture it looks like a big Special. If anyone has an old catalogue I'd like to know it's weight and blade dimensions if possible.

General: 7-1/2" blade, weight 8.5 ozs. Stich, you're right. It's basically a Special with a longer blade. It probably wouldn't take as much abuse as the BK-7, but it's lighter (BK-7 = 12.9 ozs) and my guess is that probably would be a better cutter. Only you know what's most important for your needs.

And a re-intro of the Master Series sounds like a great idea!

It´s fun to read that i have knife friends, who also wants a reintroduction of the Master Series! I remember that the knives in the series all had handles of beautiful green diamond wood and had BG42 steel blades. This time they could include the Frontiersman and General to! Last time they where available,i missed them all. They where only made in a limited numbers. I would especially like to have the Special 119 from the Master Series.:) Do you folks at Buck have any thoughts?

Those classic Buck fixed blades really were my first quality knives. They always hold a special place in my quiver and still get more than their fair share of the use.

Since a 303 in BG-42 is way out of the question a 501 in that steel (like the MS version) would be a great pocket knife.

As long as we're dreaming, I'd love to see the Frontiersman in a tool steel like 0-1 or 52100, myself. Big as it is, I'd like it to be able to stand a bit more whacking around than most stainless can handle. That isn't to say that I'm getting rid of my current one. ;)

Camp knife sized fixed blade, a little shorter than the General, but with a much wider blade. There's a picture of one with corian handles here, but most had wood or micarta scales.

Neat knives, just would've been even neater with a tougher steel! :)

Edit to add: Here's a picture that might show the profile better. I'm having a helluva time finding a decent shot of one.

I would love to see Buck reintroduce some of the discontinued models, especially the 120 and the 124. These big knives may have had limited utility because of their size, but they were, IMHO, works of art in themselves.

Maybe if enough folks agree, and say so here, Buck will consider bringing them back.
