Well as I am sure you all know by now, there will be no more knives on person or in carry on of any kind or size. But, just yesterday a Dallas news station announced that no more knives, scissors, or box cutters will be allowed in the restraunts at DFW airport either! One restraunt owner was asking "How can I run a restraunt without a knife?"

I guess it's soup for everyone.

Oh, I forgot to ask if anyone knew if it was this way at any other airports. Is this an FAA thing or is DFW going overboard?

Apparently they are not allowing anything that can cut in airports or on commercial aircraft. I understand that it not only includes any knife, but nail files, fingernail clippers, scissors, razors, etc. Basically, if it will cut or stab it is not allowed.

Perhaps this is overkill. It is very apparent that more laws and more restrictive laws have done little to deter crime. Prison doesn't work, restricting possession on certain items doesn't work, etc.

But I guess this all makes someone feel safer.

Outlawing knives in airports assures that only outlaws will have them. (I lump terrorists in with outlaws, call me kooky.) I really don't see how they're going to keep them out without Xraying everyone, and that would be devastating to the allready fragile American airline companies.
If you can get knives, zip guns, and illegal drugs in prison, no ammount of security will keep them all out of airports. I can think of three different ways to defeat metal detectors, and I think the terrorists have sufficiently demonstrated their recourcefullness.
Besides, this was obviously a one shot deal. That's why the did all the attacks simultaniously, it'll never work again. I think boosting airline security is long overdue, and I welcome it, but enforcing a knife ban is to impractical to work perfectly. OTOH, it'll help, but I hate to get on a plane without anything to defend myself.
