I called three or four walmarts, checked online...I want this knife for 40$!!!!!
AUGH!!! I have just come to the light and realized what an amazing knife this is after using my friends Native III quickly...

What's going on here?!

The C78 Native III and the C41 Native are similar, but different as well. The handle of the C78 is cotoured, while that of the C41 is flat. Wal-Mart sells only the C41, and not all Wal-Mart stores stock it. In my area, out of about eight within driving distance, only one carries it. As Artfully Martial pointed out, if you want a C78, NGK has reasonable prices and is very reliable.

The few Walmarts I checked around here (Cincinnati, OH area) never had them to begin with. I think that the Native at WalMart was a regional thing.

They still have them for sale at mine in Oklahoma.

The only have them at select Walmarts. Only one out of the five I checked around me have them.

The Walmarts I've checked only have pictures of knives in the display case. Who the hell wants to buy a picture of a knife!

The C41PBK is in just over half of the U.S. Wal-Mart stores. The stores they are in are the top knife selling stores, so they aren't really regional. They are definitely still there.

well gollum i think thats done so that if you want a particular knife you take the picture to the counter and they`d give it to you. keeps minors from stealing them because they`re denied the sale.

Well... There's always flea-bay. You can find em really cheap. However, you'll get better serivce and peace of mind using a reputable dealer. Each choice has good/bad points. Choice is yours.

I have the Native I, but am willing to try a III for the new contoured scales.

Thank you TazKristi. That kind of explains the logic of it to me. I've searched 8 wallmarts for them here in NC. I only found them at 2 of their superstores. One had 3 ( i bought them) the other had only 1, which I bought too. ( 2Gifts for family members, 2 for me).

Both stores never got any more and now no store around here has them. Walmart is getting slack in some stores. All the stores carry plenty of leathermen, bucks and Kershaws. The rest is cheap, no name china knives back in the fishing area.

They'ed sell more if they had them on the shelves here, but that's a Wal mart fault, not a spyderco one. Joe

I had to do some errands around here in L.A. last week when I passed a Walmart, and bought a Native. The photo display behind the counter shows perhaps three dozen different knives for sale, and some models specifically say something along the lines of "Not available in all locations". However, the Native was not one of these models.

For you people in Ohio, the one just outside of North Canton has them. To get there you can just take 77 to the portage street exit (Just south of the Akron Canton Airport and North of the Football HoF) and head up to the strip shopping mall, which is impossible to miss from the highway. Last time I went there they had plenty.

ooooo thank you very much vivi i will have to give them a call..

edit: so i called them...no spyderco...

FYI, at new Wal-Mart in Gardner, KS (exit 210 off I-35) just opened yesterday and they had the Native in stock. I played with one and it was rock solid.

I didn't submit a purchase order to the Saunterer clan CEO (ie, wife) so couldn't pick one up.

This reminds me of folks who drive around in the parking lot for 25 minutes to be able to walk to the store in 10 seconds instead of 15 or 20.

My Walmarts (all 7 of them) have never carried any Spyderco, just import Buck, CRKT, Gerber, etc.

The Wal-Marts in my area have changed the display case for winter, and now they don't have my Natives any more, as luck would have it, I got one before they were all gone, and it has quickly become my favorite knife. I wanted to get a Buck/Mayo Cutback, but my Wal-Marts were always out of them, now they have more buck slipjoints in their new display case and no Cutbacks. I wish I had known, because I would have gotten all of the Natives they had in-stock (although I got the last one when I got mine, so it wouldn't have helped any).
