No more new product announcements?

I don’t often visit the Benchmade factory forum but I spent some time there this morning.

It looks like there are a few new models coming out that haven’t been posted here by Benchmade (they are possibly on Facebook but I don’t do that). It’s disappointing that Benchmade don’t see this sub-forum as a marketing tool.

Someone with more skills than I have can probably post the pictures and more detail but there is a new balisong coming (85), another Tengu collaboration and an International Bugout (they didn’t announce that on their own forum either, one of the forumites picked it up). I think the 15500 Meatcrafter has been mentioned in a thread here already. There could be others that I have missed. Some of these may have been mentioned in threads I haven’t read, if they have I apologize ... fact remains, a thread on a new model, headed up with the one pager that Benchmade does with the image, specs and price would be nice.

Is Benchmade still allowed to do those new model announcements? Because I don’t do Facebook or Instagram, I miss them.

Maybe they are tired of non-fanboys shredding their announcements for being waaaaay overpriced and releasing knives nobody asked for.

The new $650 (?!) S30V (?!) balisong comes to mind...

Lately they've only been doing them on their own forum, not here. I do wish they would post them here. It seems like lately the Benchmade Rep hasn't been spending as much time here as they had in the past.

While I do question a lot of the releases and hope that my opinion is heard I do sometimes feel we're a little harsh on Jimmy. He's a cool guy.

I do miss Jimmy!

But... but... but... What if it has a built in cigar cutter? And a compass in the stock?? And this... THING which tells time?!?!

Hey guys, still here and listening. Good call on the new product announcements. Those are done by our marketing team. I will see if I can get those back online.
Thank, Jimmy!

Sarcasm aside, it does seem like there are a fair amount of releases where I'm looking at it, saying to myself, "who is asking for this??". I understand that me (we) are a small part of your clientele here on the forums, probably, and don't see the big picture, but I, for one, feel that maybe some of this spending on R&D could be better spent on QC.

I looked at a $750 (or whatever it was) "Gold Class" Bugout the other day that the blade was dang near touching the scale. Maybe it didn't leave the factory like that, but there's plenty of evidence that many pieces do... Blade centering just being one example of several issues I've seen... "Within tolerance" for the price we pay should be less tolerant, in my opinion.

I have almost exclusively BM knives and carry one (or two or three) daily, so I do love at least some of them! You guys have a very solid line-up already and I understand needing to innovate and progress, but I'd rather see a couple solid entries rather than a plethora of who-is-asking-for-this entries each year. The good idea fairies should leave their cubicles and head down to the assembly area for some spot QC a couple times a week. :D

Again, just my opinions with no real stake in the matter or knowledge of actual sales metrics. But honestly, where is the custom shop 940/945 already?! :)

Thank you Jimmy.

Could we see the international releases as well please? I suspect there are more regular international visitors here than on the factory forum (myself included).

Agree with TiHawk on those points. It’s known benchmade can make great knives. But quality control matters most in the long haul and without it the knives cease to be great. I mostly focus on the older models or only buy discounted used BMs off BF and the bay. Like my $100 used Proxy - SCORE!!

Yep, we should do all the new product announcements here.

Yup, there’s a new cigar cutter out and no announcement on this forum.

I’m not sure why you guys bother keeping this sub-forum going if you aren’t interested in participating.

Sure you get a lot of flack but it’s also a place to set the record straight. Hiding from criticism isn’t a great idea. Not doing what you said you were going to do is a well deserved self inflicted injury.

Not everyone on this forum hates your products but the enthusiasts feel let down by lack of commitment from yourselves.
