no more tip up or tip down

TTTT - the dynamics of fastening the clip are different. The Endura uses a left/right clip that attatches with a barrel style bolt through a hole in the handle. Tip down has to be screwed to something.

There is always the possiblility of fastening the clip to the pivot, but this magnifies the dynamics and the manufacturing costs (ergo; retail price) considerably.

We''ve made knives with holes top and bottom, left and right for screwing clips to. Complaints were then too many holes, how to fill the holes, dirt in the holes, etc. Not a simple problem. As new models come out, we're again paying more attention to left, but they will be tip up or down (at our currently technology level).

I've never had a problem with Tip-up carry. I'm always surprised by those who find this troublesome. Is it really a safety issue, or am I biased because I've not had troubles?

Besides that, it seems intuitive to put the clip through the lanyard hole, killing two birds with one stone.

Kysa,

Depends on the size of the knife for me. My native is not a reach to get to the hole tip up. But on a longer tip up knife, with my small hand, I pull it out of my pocket and then have to adjust and find the hole to deploy. I definitely prefer tip down because I can find the hole as I pull it out of the pocket.

Sing, actually I've never thought of it like that. Deployment like that would make sense on longer blades. Thanks for the insight.

Tip-up or down seems to be a personal preference thing. I thought I preferred tip-up because my first clip knife (a Delica) was tip-up and I got use to it and thought that might be the case with most people. However, this might not be the case, because I would guess that most people's first clip knives were either Spyderco lite-weights or CS Voyagers (or other Zytel knives with integral tip-up clips). And since most people seem to prefer tip-down - this theory doesn't hold much water.

Bill - All of our testing as well as a number of posts on the general forum indicate that "Most" people prefer Tip up. (Rekats requests regarding the Carnivour, for example). Whether it is because they started with tip up or they feel it is more secure, I can't say.

Tip down seems to be preferred by a smaller number. Whether it is because they started with tip down, I don't know. I believe that tip down takes more attention and practice to train muscles because of the choices of openings, which many choose not to take the time.
