No more TISSOT watches for me

Even though I wear a Tissot PRC200 and I like it a lot, I'll never buy again this company's products. Here is why. My wife has a Tissot PRC50 watch. It is an automatic movement with date and sapphire glass, not flashy, cool watch. While it worked it worked OK for an automatic. Lately the power reserve went down a lot. The watch has 4 years (maybe 5, tops). I brought it to a Tissot dealer, he sent it to Tissot and called me back after a couple of weeks with the estimated price of maintenance/repair work: 260 Euros ($340).
This watch costs 200 euros new in France ($260) and about $150 on Amazon. When I politely asked how come the repair costs a lot more than the watch (more than double actually), he explained they change the movement, perform an water-proof test and ship it fully insured. That's freaking hilarious. I told him to just send me the damn thing back. I'll have it repaired next time I'm in Romania, watches still get repaired over there, by competent mechanics. Over here it's impossible to have a mechanical watch looked at for less then $200.
If you know of a brand that makes good quality QUARTZ lady watches, please let me know.

:D

Omegas are cool in my book, but:
- they wife thinks they don't look cool
- they don't fit the budget

Let's keep them under $500. She likes a couple of Movado watches we saw on the net. I never saw any in person, I guess they don't sell a lot in France. Are they OK?

I don't know anything about the Movado automatic, but the quartz watches are good and have been popular for over 25 years.

I have three Citizen eco-drive and really like them.

That been said, I also have two mechanical Tissot and several others from Swatch Group, regular service for them in Mexico is about $90 US at Swatch, a non-Swatch but reliable local mechanic should do it for about $50 US, this is regular service, not repair, truth is I've only sent watches for service after 10 years or so and I've never needed repair on these.

I talked with someone who should know about Swatch Group who told me that sometimes they send watches from Mexico to Switzerland for repair and even from here $340 US seems far too much.

I'd say that at most if the original movement is really bad they should charge for the cost of a new movement, not a cent more, Seems to me that someone over there is doing things wrong and loosing customers, shame on them, or as I believe I once heard a French man say: tant pis pour eux.

I have a Tissot PR100 that has spent more time in the shop than on my wrist, my wife has a quartz Tissot that has never given her a problem.
