Yeah, you hear right.

We're not gonna run an October contest. With all the Gathering stuff, Ethan and I decided to just take October off, and come back strong in November.

November marks the 1yr anniversary of "Ethan's Challenge", and we couldn't be more proud of ya'll and what ya'll have accomplished.

There is still a chance to win BKT knife up in the stickies, so, there is a "contest" of sorts going on, be sure and stop in and enter up.

And with that, I would like to hear what contests you guys liked, what you learned, how we could improve, and what you guys think of the overall experience, here in the BKT forum.

Next month, is gonna be

FIRE!!!

So we all win something in November? :D

Everyone that enters and participates in the Challenges wins something. It may not be a new knife, but some of the skills and experiences some folks have learned, are much better.

I was kidding Moosey. ;)

Kinda bummed to hear that but totally understand how busy you guys will be. Was looking forward to my first challenge this month. But I will just start getting psyched up for November.

Fire you say..my beards old archenemy....this will be interesting

Agreed Mauser. While I was a BH for the September contest, I didn't have the time or proper knife to compete. So this next one would have been the first one that I could actually take part in. That of course assumes that I have the required skills...

Fire... While I'm decent for an average joe at starting a fire (got past the box full of matches, gallon of lighter fluid fire starting methods LONG ago), I actually have only started fire with my firesteel once, and with a bow like 3 times. However, I'll likely compete, as long as school or weather don't sabotage me again :).

Also, I thought that the competitions (the few I've gone and looked into from before I joined) that had you build something specific (spoon, that weird not-bow arrow launcher, furniture, etc) were really interesting. As someone that is fairly new to all of this, seeing things like those are really helpful. If I'm ever in a situation where I need to rely on any of those, I think I could get pretty close from memory.

Thanks guys, and remember to take cool pics for us that aren't going to the gathering :).

The shelter building contests were great. I was wanting to make a campsite for some quick woods time. And as the saying goes - "nothing motivates like the deadline".

I've been rehabbing houses and managing apartments for 20 plus years, but a knife and string is "just a little different" building code (LOL)

Couple more pics of the site - not finished by any means, but it keeps growing. Clearing brush, making camp furn., fire pits, trails, etc.

my October challenge: driving 900 miles to the Beckerhead gathering.
I'm even picking up a fellow traveler at the Nashville airport on my way there.

Am I missing something? cuz I'm not following ya bud....

Oh yes, fire I can do! I got bored once in a fighting hole during the Iraq invasion and started a small quickly extinguished fire with a bowdrill.
