Craig, I'm sorry if I caused you any trouble. My mention of your stands was only meant as a recommendation for those looking for some, not as an advertisement. I had originally mentioned them to Bill Martino in the old HI knifeforum. Right after that, a friend of mine let me use his email address so that I could register on Bladeforums. Wanting to save Bill the trouble of reading my recommendation and then having to pass the word on himself, I mentioned it myself. I shortened the message, since I'm prone to laziness. I'm also a sucker for low prices, hence the price mention. Sorry that it all came out tacky-sounding. My remark that "You won't be able to shut me up now" was a lighthearted reference to my not being able to register on Bladeforums until recently.

I would never purposely offend anyone. All I had to gain from my mention of the stands was satisfaction from helping other forumites out. If HI was offering stands themselves, I would have never mentioned GH's stands, since I would know that nobody would appreciate it.

Big Bob: No apology necessary to me

If you weren't spun up on the sensitive nature of mentioning GH over on the HI forum, I guess you are now.

The sensitivity over there was probably caused by me during my early stages of growth - when my posts got a bit too commercial (by my own admission). I guess you just hit a raw nerve that hasn't completely healed yet.

You may not know it, but your efforts to help the general forumite community out were appreciated by many.

On a lighter note, I am pretty much wiped out of stands right now due to everybody wanting one. For some reason, I failed to get more in my last shipment, so I'll have to order a bunch.

Any suggestions on "features?"

Bob, in the words of my esteemed grandpappy: The fella who's never accidentally stepped on a few toes has never left the front porch!

Ok so I'm a geek!!! I take it it's a bad thing to mention Gurkha House on the Himalayan Imports forum???

O well for some strange reason I like this forum better, even though I read and learn over there all the time.

Shrike, I know that there are some folks who will disagree, but to my way of thinking, anybody into khuks is good people. I believe it's OK for people to have their preferences of one forum over another, or of one brand of khuk over another, but that doesn't mean we can't respect one another or share our knowledge, experience, and war stories with one another.

I've not been involved in the khuk scene for very long, so my views obviously don't mean squat, but I refuse to choose sides. I thorougly enjoy participating in both forums. And I've done business with Uncle Bill at HI and with Craig at GH and I've found them both to be perfect gentlemen and a pleasure to do business with. I've bought khuks from both gents and will continue to do so. I wasn't into cliques when I was in elementary school and I damn sure ain't into them now. Mainly because I'm too old to much care what anybody else thinks.

So, what I'm saying is, do what you think is right, and the devil take the hind most.

Steven F,
I've read your posts on HI and learned quite a bit from them. I'm a newbey when it comes to khuk's as I only owned one years ago and then broke it on bamboo and crap chopping. The fever has been burning since then and just lately with the WWIII it broke out into open flames again and now I cant wait to get my grubby hands on the WWIII.

Me no like cliques at all and I have a problem keeping my mouth (fingers) shut when thats the best thing. All I'm saying is that for whatever reason (dont have anything more than a feeling) I like GH's new forum and spend more time here HOWEVER, that does NOT keep me from visiting HI and learning along with feeding my fire for more Khuk's. If somthing comes along from HI that I like well the wife will just be PO'd for a while

Only thing I wish was that I knew HI was in Reno as we spent several days in Reno Last Aug.

I have more HI's than GH's but I like both. I like the men who are behind these great sources of REALLY useful knives. I don't see any conflict in this. I don't see nor feel the need to choose "sides."

I enjoy BOTH GH, and HI products, too!

I look at it as a larger extended 'family'. We all agree that Khukuri's are useful tools.

For my two cents: anybody who can prounounce Khukuri is good to go! Well, even people who mispronounce it are good too. I remember asking Cliff Stamp why everybody in the world didn't have a khukuri in their toolbox - he replied that it's because not eveybody knows about them.

What do you think would happen in Nepal if khukuris enjoyed a wider acclaim? Can you imagine a whole chunk of an economy geared toward khukuri production!

It tickles me to death to see two companies that produce high quality khukuris. The khukuris are more diverse in design and style than ever. This makes each khukuri more unique. It is nice to have two khukuri forums now. The only drawback will be that I will be even more busy reading and posting, but I'm willing to accept the challenge.

Yep, Bob, with two forums it may get tough at times trying to keep up with them, but a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do.

And to do our part, Blackdog and I will do our best to make the forum enjoyable to all. What I don't want it to be is just another "sales" mechanism (although there is certainly that aspect of the forum). Rather, I want to continue to let it evolve into the friendly "chat-room" that it seems to be developing into. Wait a minute, that gives me an idea . . .

Gentlemen,

I think all of the necessary viewpoints have been covered on this subject and further discussion would be counter-productive.

All members are welcome on this forum, as they are on the HI Forum. Both forums are frequented by some of the most inventive, creative and knowlegeable people we are ever likely to encounter. There is much to be learned from all concerned. Knowledge, like gold, is where you find it.
