NO or SH carry

OK I've been going back and forth between my SH-E and my NO. I've used the SH way more but found the NO a little easier to carry in "public".
I guess this is a question to those that have extensively used a NO or have both. I'm on the fence on which to make my EDC. Has anyone done any chopping with a NO? Obviously it won't chop as well as a SH just due to length. Has anyone found a task that a NO won't handle where they wished they had a SH?

Anyone have any input?

Thanks

What, does nobody carry one of these things? Come on you Oinkers. Just looking for an opinion.
Which do you use?
Maybe I just need to take them both into the woods and beat them both untill I have my answer.

My preference goes for the NO-e. I believe that the small advantage gained by the SH-e with its extra length and heft, is more than compensated by the NO with its ability to perform detailed work with greater ease, its also not a bad skinner as well.

I have skinned and butchered a couple of head of cattle with one of mine in the past with good results.

I generally wear a Mean Street or Active Duty in an IWB/SOB setup for EDC and my SH is always close by in a pack or Camelback type rig.
Sometimes I'll toss the MS or AD in the pack and throw on my BAe (if clothing is heavy enough to keep things sheeple-ized;))

As far as the SH vs. NO goes, I prefer the larger of the two only from a chopping and prodding aspect. The NO has awesome balance but if you want to whack the crap out of something or dig at who knows what, it doesn't quite compare to the SH:D

The only time I take my NO along is if my SH is too long to fit in whatever I'm carrying it in (such as a hip pack or bike bag).

Otherwise, whenever I'm in the back forty or in the woods my SH is always on my side.:)

How public is 'public'? I thought you were talking about in town type of EDC, then you mention the woods. The biggest thing I can easily conceal is my SHBA. If you're not trying to conceal it, a bit more of a high ride sheath would make the SH hang no lower than the NO (bottom of sheath). If it's for chopping, the SH obviously would outdo the NO. For long term carry the NO is going to feel a lot lighter at the end of the day. In fact a ZTNO would even be lighter if it's going to be on your belt for hours at a time. If you aren't going to be building a shelter or chopping a cord or 2 of firewood I think the NO would serve just fine. To me it's like a BA-E on steriods.

Well what I mean by public is a trip to town in the middle of the day. I'm working on an IWB sheath. I carried a SH concealed for months so it can be done.
If I'm going to be in town or some such public activity for extended periods of time and I feel I need something more than my folder then I pack a Groove Master or BA-E.
I'm talking more for field use for the bigger blades. As I said I've used the SH in the field but wanted opinions of those that can attest to the NO's useage and/or comparison to the SH-E.
I guess what I'm wonder which is a more versatile blade for use. I use the term EDC because even if the blade isn't physically on me it is but moments away in a car, bag, or someplace I can access.

Here goes my two cents of input. Personally, I love my NO because it was my first Busse, but then came along the SH and BM. All three blades have been used alot, from slicing up watermelon to chopping down trees and clearing brush. But nowadays, it seems my SH or BM get twice as much use as my beloved NO. For my uses the NO falls in that tweener range, great cutter and good chopper for a blade that size. But in use comparisons, for any chopping chore I'm taking the SH and more likely the BM, simply for the extra length which in turn makes chopping alot easier and faster. And as for a cutter blade my AD gets more use than my NO, because its lighter and smaller. So I'm saying my edc these days are my AD and my SH or BM which one of them is always nearby in my truck. Like I said, it's only my two cents of opinion, but it sure is nice to know that whatever size you might need, BUSSE has you covered. :D

The NO doesn't weigh THAT much less than the SH; consequently, while some length is also lost, much of the SH's chopping power is retained. Also, however, it's not that much less to carry. It's also, IMHO, not that much better for fine work. It all comes down to what size you want.

Also, chopping will not be exceptional from either, so if you're gonna be doing a lot of chopping another tool will probably be necessary.

The bottom line is that both tools are great all-around blades; how's that for avoiding the question? :D

shameless hijacking

Andrew, didn't know you were running for office.........

You ever empty your e-mails out?? I keep getting "full" responses.......

hamguy's fault *on*

I should have quite a bit of space now....unless you're sending me a big picture or something :D

If I were to choose between the SH and the NO, I'd choose the CT....oops wrong forum, sorry ;):p

Seriously if it were for EDC I'd choose the NO. I've done some light chopping with a BA-e so it can be done, however, I wouldn't want to make a log cabin with it. If you are going to be near the woods, take the SH.(I mean CT ;) )

I agree that both of these blades are very close as far as intended use goes. No I don't do a lot of chopping. When I need to chop I have other tools for that. I think I'll end up carrying a SH-E since I also generally have a BA-E or
Shhhhh Bandicoot.
Now I would carry a Mini Spec Ops if there were such a thing available.
:D :D :D
